Regards exhaust/sound, I would recommend the exhaust bypass modification. Several specialists offer this service inc Cotswold, Revolution (Yorkshire|) and Hayward & Scott (Essex). I have had the Hayward fabrication on a 986 and adored the sound. Gert at Carnewal in Belgium offers the best solution in my opinion. I travelled to him and made a trip of it stopping in Bruges/Ghent etc .He also offers an exchange service if travel is difficult. The beauty of these bypass style modifications is they are almost akin to the original Porsche Sports exhaust for a fraction of the cost. They do not drone on the motorway or cruising but give a lovely bark/rasp under acceleration. There are plenty of videos on youtube. Prices between £250 and £500. have recently just picked up a boxster 987.

i'd take advantage of doing it now...as the rules and fines now being served in NYC over after market exhaust noise levels...have recently just picked up a boxster 987.

I fitted a sony XAV 550D head unit to my now gone 987.2 CS. Unit as Apple or Android car play,Dab and Bluetooth. Transformed the car. Just done the same mod to my current 981 CS.
Simple swap.
Talk to Carl at www.studioincar.co.uk
He has a Cayman, so know his Porsche stuff.

I've never seen someone replace the PCM in a 981, thanks.

I was commenting more on the look than the specs/practicality.
Fair enough Julian, I get where you are coming from, but the basic Porsche fitment is pretty much the same as in a 987.1 or earlier. The aftermarket unit definately updates the cars aesthetics and even more the in use appearance, functionality and higher resolution graphic display - akin to an older pc monitor to a current item. The actual performance of the unit is so ahead of the PCM 3.xx example is so marked that even Porsche are introducing replacement head units for the 987.xx versions imminently.
Have a look at one in real life - think you might reconsider!
I like it, here’s why..
We used our 987.2 CS to go pick up a car i’d bought on Friday, it doesn’t have nav… or DAB.
As we were going somewhere we’d not been before, i had to rig up a Ram Mount phone holder to use google maps… not attractive. Then the radio station had to be re-tuned as we travelled across country… we ended up turning it off.
On the way back (missus driving the 987) i rang her as she was following me and she pressed the CD eject button to answer it does look like a phone to be fair !
I get why people don’t want to mess with original kit, i don’t want to really, but updating it really makes sense to enjoy the features and benefits of a modern head unit.. bluetooth to listen to own tunes, nav, phone etc.. i get it.
My question is, can you tell us every item that is needed to do the swap, (part numbers if possible) please? I often see updated head units in older cars, but i’m not sure if the car runs separate drivers for the speakers etc.
Thanks.

I've seen some people updating the 981 PCM to the newer Porsche version - not sure on the model numbers - which has apple play and other stuff. I don't have an apple phone anyway.

If you're Bedford way then this guy might be of interest, he does all the rework internally in the exhaust and is very reasonably priced: https://www.exhaustmods.co.uk/now just need a headunit and im done

He's super booked up though, I booked mine in to be done in October and first available slot was in Jan! He has a facebook page with lots of examples of completed work.
For headunits my 987.1 had a Pioneer SPH DA120 fitted which has Carplay. It works well, is fitted with a OEM look bezel. They do a newer version which has DAB etc. I pulled it out to add a reversing camera to it, looks like it was fairly fiddly to fit originally, you need loom adapters, also depends whether your car has standard sound or the fibre optic Bose system (doable I believe but requires a more complex loom). The screen quality isn't as good as a modern smart phone or what you'd find in a modern car but it's perfectly usable. Would recommend it.
