I think the answer lies in horsepower outputs and engine design/technology.
Just interesting how they moved from 2.7 to 2.9 to 2.7That is true, but normally they don’t get a say in whether there is a totally new engine in a model.
An engine with a short life because it was replaced with the 2.7 DFI unit after only 5 years.
I can only assume it shares a lot of its architecture with one of the other engines, but I don’t know which one.
ETA: it seems the 2.9 is actually a variant of the 2.7 DFI motor. It is the MA1.20 in 2.9 variant and MA1.22 in 2.7 variant.
So it seems like the change to DFI was planned early, but maybe wasn’t ready for the 987.2 so they stretched it slightly to get the power target maybe?
