Crystal ball time and Just wondering what the latest thinking is as to the power train for the next generation 718 series cars?

If say they are not ICE powered, do people think there will actual even be an electric GT4 or Spyder down the line?

IMHO, the Mission R shows the future plan for Porsche.

The 718 Boxsters and Caymans will continue as long as possible with ICE then they will be discontinued. The 911 will also stay ICE until it is also discontinued, after the 718 series I suspect. The 911 will stay the halo ICE car for us dinosaurs and luddites until Porsche cannot sell ICE cars at all.

A new fully electric two seater sports car will be launched which will be the basis of the one-make racing series worldwide replacing the Carrera Cup and Supercup. It will be the future for Porsche sports cars.

So, if that happens, reckon there will be a facelift ICE 718 a la Macan?

Not sure, given that the 718 is essentially a facelift of the 981 and has been around for 8-9 years already. I think it may soldier on as-is until it's killed off in 2023.

I think the GT4RS and Spyder RS will be the swansong cars as it's the only reason I ican see why Porsche would produce them.

Autocar have intimated that the ICE 718 and forthcoming EV car will be sold alongside each other in the hope that people will grow to accept the idea , bit like the Fiat 500 , what I can say is that as im never never ever buying an electric car that wont be happening with me

Porsche have invested significantly in synthetic fuels, setting up a plant in Chile. F1 will soon be deciding whether to go down this route and if they do Porsche will be entering as an engine supplier.

There is still hope.

It’s going to be electric apparently

They were discussing this on the Podcast “Spikes Car Radio” either last week or the week before.

So no more GT 718s then after the GT4RS and Spyder RS?

Who knows but if it’s correct you would think that is a distinct possibility.

I'm hearing (from my OPC) full electric range (possibly with the exception of GT/Spyder models) for the Cayster from 2024. Not sure if it's any more likely to be true out here than what is said in the UK or not though ...

Porsche have been pretty upfront about the fact that the cayman platform will remain unchanged until the electrified version appears. I was surprised they put the 4.0 in it. It won’t get a new interior or any major changes now till the electric versions appear.

I suspect there will be a radical new design language to it - and probably take some cues from the Taycan and this new Mission E thing.

Latest issue of Car mag on the same topic, if the new model looks anything like that I will not be changing my 981 Cayman GTS any time soon.

For production scale and efficiencies it will definitely borrow from the Taycan

No way in the next 50 years will the world be ready for full electric cars, expect hybrids to be the only answer .

Some new renders of how it might look.
True, who really knows, but it is interesting to see. Less harsh than the one I posted above.
