New gt4 vs old?
Discussion
So, long term gt4 fan, just looking to get a car to maybe use for weekend fun.
I was surprised to see on here that Porsche might not sell you one?
Is a new car a better buy than a used? I love this one

However would I be better off ordering a new one?(if I decided to commit).
Based on about 4k per year, whether new or used, I guess I'd be looking at 5% depreciation per year?

5 year old car versus new - horses for courses and all that, no Porsche warranty etc... or a wait of unknown length if you're lucky enough to find a dealer willing to sell you one, and that's if they are even still available/taking orders. Some people on here insinuating that only the GT4RS will be available, but that will be in even fewer numbers.
Plenty of nearly new available via PGB official network if you prefer a newer variant with warranty. You pays your money and takes your choice. I can't bring myself to spend £100k on a car with seat belt material for door release at this time. I must be weird

All depends on how you rate were you sit ...... in the cabin I mean.
The 718 has the newer PCM and interior design. The 981 has the older less modern look. Driving wise they are almost the same and the noise from the older one is better IMHO as it does not have the GPF fitted. You also keep a few £k`s in your pocket.
unless you want PDK in which case there is only one choice available.

The 718's 9A2 engine is a better unit too.
Aesthetically, the 718 stands out to me as being more modern (Front lip, Venturi tunnel) etc.
If I had numerous weekend cars, I'd have a 981. As I don't, I bought a 718 which still a great drive but has a nicer cabin/pcm/car play for longer journeys.
Bottom line:
981 - cheaper (but not that much!), "the original", nicer sounding, slightly more hardcore.
718: £15-20k more. Lighter clutch, more modern inside. Aero bits.

Well, going by many 981GT4's for sale, coupled with amount of owners (where such info is detailed), 5K in 4 years is possibly the same as many owners who frequent here and voice opinions - and their opinions are totally valid no matter what the mileage in ownership, so why not the YouTuber?
I guess if people want to listen to someone that doesn't drive, then that is up to them.Edited by julian987R on Saturday 28th August 16:05

5k over 4 years? Sorry if that read wrong, I meant circa 5k a year.
Makes no odds. If one reaches an opinion, good or bad, after 10 miles, 100 miles, what’s another thousand miles going to do to change your POV. I see no warranted correlation between mileage and opinion, in that only those that do X amount of miles must have the only valid opinions on a car.Makes no sense to me.

So you don't think it makes a difference if you do 1 mile in the car in a 30MPH zone compared to someone who'd done 10k in a year on all sorts or roads/ tracks? Makes no sense to me.
If so I'm sorry you couldn't be further from wrong. if he's done 5k in 4 years then it took him nearly a year just to do run in mileage. Surely you cannot be serious.
A good review is if someone has done like for like mileage on trackdays or roads and have experienced both cars in the same/similar scenarios. Then you have a non biased review.
I assume no one replied to this as it's just a silly statement.

Have you driven a 718 and 981 to compare?Makes no sense to me.
