Just yesterday I picked up a 981 GT4 from a porsche centre. Noticed some vibration when lifting off at higher speed and very soft short end braking (softer than ‘normal’ porsche feel).

Attached a picture. It’s wet because I sprayed the car off tonight after wet / long drive back yesterday. Looks like a mark but it’s hairline / crack at the bottom.

Any thoughts?

It almost looks like something got stuck between the wheel and caliper given the curvature of the mark/crack.

I’ve never heard of a caliper cracking like that

Definitely picked up a piece of gravel / road debris and that’s cut into the calliper face. Was it like that when you bought it or potentiality happened on the way home.
Sure it won’t be cracked and most likely just a deeper grooved at the start of the scratch where the debris entered.

I just zoomed in on a photo at the dealership and it was like it when I collected - can’t believe I missed it but hey..

Needs a look over / fix as not a place to have any weakness right ?

Might be worth looking at the back of the wheel, see if their is a corresponding mark on one of the spokes.

Definitely looks like just a scratch, it's deeper at the bottom and fades to almost nothing at the top.

Not quite sure what can be done about it though?

It’s just a scratch in the paint.
Mine has one as well after getting a stone caught.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

Not urgent but at some point maybe get your caliper repainted.
It does happen especially where a car has large calipers with limited space to the wheel.
As others have said only cosmetic mother to worry about.

Agreed, if anything they’ll probably just take the wheel off and wash/polish the scratch away.

Soft feel under foot could point to some tapering of the pads. Take some time and do a proper inspection of the pads.

Tapered pads are bad news on these. It can lead to cracking of the ceramic pucks that are screwed into each piston. Those pucks aren't available to buy separately, so it can get expensive very quickly.

Don't despair about pucks and wedging.

Autoquest in the US sell replacement titanium pucks in the US, c £800 for the entire set. Demonspeed Motorsports do so for the 996/997 brakes. Pro-calipers.co.uk seem to be able to source them when rebuilding calipers (they did for me). Snowy
