Having decided to take the plunge on a Boxster GTS 4.0 I have just called to place my order with my local dealer. He previously advised that delivery would be Q1 or Q2 2022 which was fine by me.

He now tells me that Porsche have sent an update to all dealers saying that they should not expect any further GTS 4.0s until 2023 (with similar guidance for 911s). Orders placed prior to this notification may be honoured.

Has anyone else heard this? Any suggestions as to how to overcome this delay? Are some dealers more likely to have an allocation than others?

It's a first world problem and keeping my 981 GTS longer than expected is no hardship, but 2023 does seem a long way off!

Most new Porsche are experiencing delays due to well known supply chain issues and any new orders could well be 2023 delivery.

Yes, not surprised by this.

The 718 4.0's are suffering from major supply issues. Not helped as far as I understand it with a faulty batch being produced earlier this year.

992 availability is much better, but you're still talking Q1 2022 possibly Q2.

I would be utterly gob smacked if that was the case. I suspect come summer 2022 pretty much everyone will have their car.

My local OPC has been quite honest with me that in the next quarter they are only getting one Boxster and one Cayman, both allocated. They don’t know what they’ll get for the following quarter.

I would not be at all shocked if OPC’s with considerable backlogs are now advising new customers/orders as being likely 2023. The truth is the OPC’s don’t get given long term forecasts of what they’ll be getting.

Also demand is running high for the n/a 4.0 litres, not just in the UK, but the US. With vehicles on back order it is no surprise that 2023 is being touted. The Boxster that I ordered back in January is still awaiting manufacture..

I put a deposit down with my dealer at launch. Waited 20 months and gave up, as did others I know. Dealer received an allocation of 2 some months later… 21 were originally on the waiting list… I live on an island. I have only seen 1 out and about.

My OPC has confirmed delays across a lot of models. They dont think it will mean a deposit placed now will result in a 2023 delivery. I really hope not.

Sorry - please could you clarify your second sentence: are you saying they are suggesting that deposits placed now will result in delivery later than 2023?

I enquired with my local OPC last week about a Cayman GTS 4.0 and a 992 GTS and was told availability on 992 was slightly better and could expect a car in Q1/2 of 2022, the Cayman was in shorter supply and there was a list of several people to be fulfilled. I was still told Q1/2 2022 for a Cayman. A deposit was required for a place in the queue for an allocation. The allocations for the remainder of 2021 were only 1 or 2 cars per month and all spoken for.

I was trying to say, they dont think a deposit placed today will result in the car coming in 2023. The shortage of components is not going to cause such a long delay.
Lots of conflicting opinions on this, safe thing to assume, there is going to be a delay.

I have now spoken with another OPC which is still estimating Q2 2022 delivery and they appeared genuinely shocked with the suggestion that it would be as late as 2023.

I will be paying my deposit tomorrow and keeping my fingers tightly crossed. Quite literally, time will tell…

Likewise, with a possibility of Q1. That was two weeks ago.

My old car, ordering another one tomorrow to replace it. I’ve been told 8 months wait today.

Btw the damage was a lot more than the advert makes out…

I approve of your colour choices.
