Hi,

A relatively new Boxster owner (first Porsche). It’s a 1998 2.5 and although the first few months have been trouble free, the clutch has started to slip. I would like to get this changed ASAP so I can enjoy the rest of the summer before I park her up for the winter but have absolutely no idea what I should expect to pay. I have had varying costs today from the cheapest (£890) to (£1680) both include VAT.

Having had a company car for years I really feel out of touch with costs and some guidance from you guys would be great.

Thanks for your advice in advance.

If you are changing the clutch, this might not apply to the 2.5 from 98 but if it does get the IMS and RMS changed at the same time..

Is there any evidence of oil leaking from between the engine and gearbox?

The reason the clutch price might vary is if you are getting just a clutch kit, or clutch kit Inc flywheel or since it's a known issue replace the main seal behind the flywheel as well whilst you are there.... I'd get seals and slave cylinder all Checked/replaced at the same time

I was under the car yesterday and no evidence of any oil leaks around the engine and gearbox area, it’s all clean under there but will take another look tomorrow, thanks for the advice.

They are pretty simple to change, I think the last one we did was around £650

Thanks for the advice.

I spoke to another specialist today who recommend that inch age the dual mass and RMS at the same time as well as the IMS...grand total of £3000!

Just stick a clutch in it, its only a 4.5 hour job so its not like your spending lots on labour.

I didn't think it was, its also near on 20 years old and if it was going to break then you would have expected it to break by now.

Do brake pipes corrode badly like on the 996? If there is one passing over the gearbox and otherwise difficult to get at, might be worthwhile doing.

I’m only familiar with the 996 so brake pipes may take different routes on the boxster.
