Boxster 718s first impressions
Discussion
Had a loan 718 s pdk for a week from my opc. It’s a 21 plate so nearly new
I absolutely love it. It feels really quick and completely composed
Build quality is first class. Handles so well and the pdk box is sublime
The Bose sound system is ok at best.
Overall I’m very impressed.
Can’t wait to try the 4lt

I tried one, loved the Boxster as a platform but was left a bit disappointed with the refinement from the engine. My issue was not the ‘subaru’esque beat…but there seemed to be a load of ‘thrash’ at moderate rpm (say 2500-3500rpm) on a light throttle - the sort of speed you might be using driving round town. At full throttle it sounded great and good exhaust note. I thought it had tremendous wallop and found it blisteringly fast. People complain about lag, but it’s not too bad and you can drive around that no problem.
Have you not driven the 4.0l? It’s a whole different ballgame. It is smooth as velvet, not as punchy as the S at lower revs but keeps on pulling and pulling and pulling to 8000rpm when turbos have levelled off or given up.
I can’t work out why the 2.5 I drove seemed to have this harsh metallic thrash. After all they are the same engine series, so their timing chains and ancillaries are configured the same. It wasn’t turbo or waste gate noise. I can only think it might be this soundaktor thing.
I wouldn’t criticise anyone going for the S. It’s certainly vivid and exciting. But the 4.0l is pure joy.

You’ll love it. Post us some pictures. Once you get the 25, you’ll be able to tell us whether you can feel the extra 20bhp between the GT4 and the GTS. Mind you, some running in required first I guess. This boxster s I have accelerates so well. Think it sounds decent as well.
