Just a question on the clubsport seats\cage combo, would you add the cage if the plan was to use the car just for the road? or a must do for resale?

The consensus from my following previous posts on this would appear to be:
Don’t bother if road car
Not needed for resale

It's an expensive option. If you don't want it, don't spec it smile

My GT4 order is just a road car with full CS options, as I think it makes the car look more special, but it's just personal choice.

Whilst a CS GT4 will command roughly the same as the costed option above a non CS car of the same spec it will not proportionately add enhanced value over cost as it does on a GT3.

For road use a complete waste of time effort and money retrofitting a cage especially with the weight penalty.

Walter Rohrl also reckoned the cage slightly upset the perfect balance of the GT4. Not that us lesser driving gods would ever notice of course. biggrin:

Given most of us won't notice the added rigidity (or weight), I would spec it depending on whether you like the look. For me, I think the "cage" you get on the GT4 is a bit pathetic compared to the impressive piece you get in a GT3. So I didn't spec it on mine.

Only other reason you might want it is for the harnesses.

He did say that and I’m not a driving god… but the problem with that statement, is that the GT4 comes on height adjustable coil overs which means you can cornerweight the car to achieve any balance you want.

As for weight penalty, yes there is additionally 10kg or so?… my 981 with CS was weighed this week and is 1516kg inc 87KG for driver + half tank of fuel. 50% cross weight split… so perfectly balanced.
So my car is right at 1430kg inc half tank.

The sole reason for the OEM cage in the GT4 is roll over protection, required when you use harnesses…it doesn’t add stiffness…harnesses don’t attach to it.

Okay. But would be good to see if it was an article or statement made on video etc.

Just my opinion but I’m currently and tentatively looking into a GT4 purchase for my next car. I’ve spoken to many current and ex owners as well as people within the trade and the common theme is that CS is the best option particularly if you’re looking to keep it long term. As these cars become older the likelihood is that you’ll be potentially selling to a track enthusiast. I completely agree that there are slight downsides to having it but many would argue that it is a track focussed car anyway and if you weren’t intending to track why not go the GTS route instead....

After saying all of that I would only buy CS and have no intention of using on anything but public roads 😁

Going off topic a bit - has anybody had to change the front splitter on a 718 GT4? If so what’s the cost/availability?

I've scuffed mine plenty of times but not had to replace it yet, so they seem pretty tough. No idea on cost for a replacement I'm afraid.

My dad had a random metal bracket sticking up on his drive which has gauged a hole in it!

I can live with scrapes as that’s expected but my heart is currently broken.
