Hi all I have just bought my first Porsche Cayman - 2018 base model. I've read that these cars are CarPlay capable. I'm interested to know if it comes standard with the 2018 base model or if it's an option. How do I know if mine has it or not? Thanks

It came standard for builds from September 2018 I think, prior to that it was an option.

Where are you based? all UK 718's have CarPlay as standard - mine is a late 2017 car and it has it. it's not wireless though - you have to plug into the cubby between the armrests.

American cars it's been an option until recently I believe - I don't know about Europe.

I am UK based. That is great to hear that it comes standard. Shame about the wireless but I can live with that.

A carlinkit 2 will convert it to wireless. I use one in my 2018 991.2 Its also works in my 2017 Audi a3 and 2019 T6 camper.

My 2019 718 Cayman allegedly has Apple Car Play as standard but I cannot get it to work. I’ve followed numerous YouTube videos etc and still nothing. Any ideas?

Ensure you are using an original Apple lightning cable as aftermarket ones don’t tend to work, I talk from experience

You can only use the USB socket in the centre arm rest, the one in the glove compartment is only for power and not comms

Check that you have CarPlay enabled in the settings on your phone and ensure you phone software is up to date

Failing all that, do a reset of the PCM and start again.

Over the last 4 years, all of the above issues have affected us across the two cars we have.

I believe that in the UK, CarPlay and satnav became standard items from about May 2017

Thanks I’ll give that a try.

That glovebox USB port caught me out also, as it’s closer to my magnetic mount but the armrest one definitely works.

I use this mount, which places the phone nicely next to the info screen.

And this black cable, which is easier to disguise, when running alongside the centre console to the mount.

Seems it’s my phone that is the issue, an iPhone 11. Plugged i the wife’s phone an iPhone 13 and it works fine. My own phone has the latest updates and works with everything else. Odd.

Yes my early 2017 718 base has CarPlay - didn’t know it had it until someone told me it did!
Got us out of a sticky situation in Alsace, France when a new road appeared that wasn’t on PCM!

Reset the PCM and lo and behold everything works as it should. Damn, the wife was just about to buy me a new iPhone, which really would have been a waste of money truth be told.

Thanks for the help .
