I thought I'd asked this before but perhaps I typed it and didn't hit Submit frown

981 Boxster, 2013, bearing in mind the two year service interval and that it alternates between full and intermediate...

Last full service was 3 years ago, the last intermediate was out of sync at 16 months ago (June 19).

So the next service will be a full one, but due in June?

Whilst the intermediate appeared to have included belts and quite a bit else I'm still tempted to get it done even sooner. Even though it's small mileage the two year intervals 'feel' quite far apart and as I only got it in September could be better to start with a clean slate.

It's still under warranty until Nov 21 so would have to be a wallet busting OPC extravagance.

It's not as simple as major or minor services, there are other items that are time or mileage dependent e.g. belts which are 6yrs/60k and that's why they were done at your previous service:

It's due an 8yr service when the car hits that age. I'd get that done on time, which will include spark plugs and coolant, and you're good to go.

Hi, as above but these are extracts from the information that used to be available on the Porsche website. I hope that you can read them. The second image is the pricing for the former Participating Porsche Centres (which wasn't all of them) before 31.12.19. It is worth ringing around as can prices vary by quite a lot. Also, at the moment a current Porsche Extended Warranty can be extended without the 111 point check.

  • Basic service every 2 years (engine oil and brake fluid)
  • Spark plugs every 4 years
  • Drive belt and air filters every 6 years
These cars aren’t anything like as delicate as some people like to make out and IMO there’s no point over-servicing them. Choose your own intervals to fit your use cycle and mileage.

Watch out the biggest rip-off of all. Namely, cabin air filter (or pollen filter). They all love to change it as often as possible as it enables them to charge £60 plus labour for about 15 seconds work. All of the air filters are easy DIY jobs without even needing to pick the car up off the ground. Engine air filters take a bit of patience because there’s some stuff that needs to be moved out of the way.

What’s the nicest way to look after your 981? Just get it warmed up sensibly before you thrash it. Don’t leave it ticking over on the drive to warm up, don’t labour the engine at low rpm and do make sure the OIL temp gauge is well out of the blue sector before you get jiggy with the throttle.

Just to add - my 981 is now over 8 years old and has been serviced by OPC or specialist every 2 years.

Total maintenance costs to date = £3,500

I didn't bother with extended warranty.

Thanks guys, a bit clearer now then - will just think of it as the 8 year service coming up. Looks like I don't need to panic into it then.

Yeah I've always warmed up my cars before getting right foot heavy. Noticed it takes a fair while in this but that's ok, no interesting roads near me anyway.

I pity whoever will end up buying my neighbours BMW M2, every morning he starts up, blips the throttle a few times then absolutely hoofs it up the road.

I like to see 90C on oil temp before I use the engine fully... takes 15 miles in the Cay... more in winter. Not really a chore...

Dragging up an older thread for some context.... i'm in the process of arranging a 111point check prior to adding a warranty on my 2016 Spyder.

The opc has flagged that the 4yr service is missing a record of a couple of elements. One is spark plugs which i can show the receipt for, but the other is below:

The paperwork i have for the service looks comprehensive, shows it as a 4yr service, along with a full vehicle health check including things like this:

Anyone know what the opc's request to do a "Check Ancillary" stuff is related to and if it is mandatory on a 4yr service?

Was it done at an OPC? If so, the paperwork you have should prove it was all done.

If it was done elsewhere then it's hard to say what may or may not have been done...

It was done at a different OPC yes and I have the full receipt, but neither the receipt nor the service interval stuff mentions the "Check Ancillary Unit mounts" stuff? I've sent my paperwork over to the local opc where i've booked the 111 point check but am curious as to what other can see on their 4yr service receipt. Mine does clearly state it's a 4yr service:

Should be fine then IMHO, I think your OPC needs to explain what they think has been missed!

I’ve just checked my 4 year service invoice and that operation does not appear. I’m 99% sure it’s not on the Spyder service schedule in the maintenance booklet - though it’s a particularly impenetrable document.

I’d be asking where this is specified by Porsche - plugs, belts etc are clear but this seems like it’s an attempt to get you to pay for something that should already be covered under general health checks.

Thank you. Will see what they say!
