718 GT4 - Alternative Wheels Thread
Discussion
Hi all,
I hope that everyone is well and is not getting too frustrated / anxious / depressed with all the Covid-19 BS going on right now!?
I will be getting a second set of wheels for the GT4 for use over winter (will not be fitted with winter tyres, as winter's are not that harsh here - will go with MPSC4Ss; non-N-rated but confirmed acceptable with regard to warranty with my OPC). I could get a second set of the OEM GT4 wheels but am interested in alternative options.
My favourite brand of a/m wheels is Rays-Volk Racing and would like to fit a set of G25s to the car but I am not sure if they manufacture a size that fits in this design (TE37s are not for me, but sizing details may be useful ...)?
So, I would be grateful if people could post up what a/m wheels they have fitted to their 981/718 GT4s or 718 Spyders; ideally with pictures, size & especially offset.
Maybe this thread could then become a go-to thread for anyone with one of these cars who is thinking of fitting a different set of wheels.
Cheers!

For winter, just use your set of OEM rims, then for summer have some fancier wheels, like BBS FI-R or HRE R101 LW.
I'm not going to take my Cup 2s off to replace them with different tyres. That would be a PITA. Buying a second set of OEMs and fitting to those is an option, though. Thanks.Twinfan said:
I had a quick look for wheels and not many places do them in the proper size and offset. OEM is by far the best option unless you're updating to BBSs.
I will take a look at the BBS & HRE. I really wanted (non-TE37) Volks but if that is not possible, I may just go down the OEM route. Thanks also.Edit: OK, I just looked at those and actually prefer the OEMs. Think I may just go down that route.
Thanks guys!

I considered 19" BBS CH-R in 8.5x19 10x19 ET51/38 with PS4S for a winter setup. They are cheap enough but these wheels come with an awful looking chrome rim protector that would need removing or painting to match.
Not sure if these will clear ceramic brakes, if you have those.
HRE are stunning and very light, but they are €10k. A bit rich for me as a winter wheel.

No PCCB on mine ...Not sure if these will clear ceramic brakes, if you have those.

I looked at the HREs but they just didn't "do it" for me. I do like the OEMs but will investigate Volk Racing G25s with Rays directly to see what's what.

The point is the OEM would be your winter wheel and the BBS or HRE would be your showy summer wheel. Not sure if these will clear ceramic brakes, if you have those.

So take the Cup2 off now, put on your ‘winter’ tyres and then buy some summer wheels and put your existing Cup2 back on those.
Or just get another set of OEM. That’s the safest bet.

How much are a new set of oem wheels?
Would they fit into the boot and frunk?
I think it might be 4 or 5k for the set brand new, but I could be wrong. Some sets available on ebay for less. Would they fit into the boot and frunk?
No, full set wont fit in the Cayman. You’ll need another car if you want to transport all at the same time.

MUCH rather have these (in a different colour to the ones that came with the car) as a winter set.

JCR’s 718 GT4 on BBS FI-R’s. It was at a track day I was at last week....no idea what exhaust they have on it but even with track day silencers fitted it was loud !
It's their race pipe with OPF delete and race manifolds. Sounds incredible that car, goes to show how restrictive OPFs/OEM setup is. They'll relieve you of c.£10k for those upgrades thoughTwinfan said:
A set of new 718 GT4 wheels are £3200, but you'll need centre caps, valves and TPMS modules.
Centre caps can be cannibalised across the wheels and you can (if you so choose) get an external TPMS module which does tyre pressure & temperature, which will save you a few £hundred.Interesting how much cheaper the tyres are in the UK than in CH (especially if I do not have to pay VAT): https://content.eu.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment...
Equivalent to £4,687.79

Fair enough, but that's not what the OP said. I thought he asked for recommendations for winter wheels. So take the Cup2 off now, put on your ‘winter’ tyres and then buy some summer wheels and put your existing Cup2 back on those.

Personally I'd run 19s with a slightly narrower rear and bigger sidewalls for more better wet weather performance. Sadly winter here (Sweden) means the car is off the road, unless I run proper Nordic winters or studded tyres. It would make a good snow plough however.

Don't really need winters (OK, better for really cold weather but often it hovers around 7 degrees here and it's actually quite a dry climate in this part of Switzerland with very little snow; which tends to surprise people) so MPS4S gives me great wet weather performance (when needed) but also the ability to still utilise the autobahn properly when needed (no 250 km/h limit to the tyres).

I am doing this on my GT3 next week. My current OEM wheels will have PS4S on them and then my new BBS FI-R’s will have Cup 2 Connect’s on them for the summer/track use. The PS4S tyres are now N homologated so I can use them come warranty renewal time.So take the Cup2 off now, put on your ‘winter’ tyres and then buy some summer wheels and put your existing Cup2 back on those.

Snap. I'm getting my N0 PS4Ss fitted to my current wheels tomorrow morning and I'm looking to pick up a set of used GT4 wheels or something fancier for my Cup2s to go on.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
