Chaps,

I'm looking for your help please. I've bought a 981 GT4 and it has the correct N1 Cup 2s on it and they have 5mm tread all round. What other tyres are people using as I want to keep the Cup 2s but wouldn't mind using Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss on the car. I know you can get N0 fronts but not the rears. Will there be any detrimental effect if I were to use non N0 rear MPS4Ss?

I know that Pirelli have a N0 PZero but not sure what they're like compared to the MPS4Ss.

It is an approved used OPC car and has 24 months warranty.

Thanks,

Andy

What i have learned reading on here is that the warranty agreements that cover you post the initial manufacturers warranty are “fussy”. As there are no N rated Mps4s in the correct rear size them you risk not being covered.

All madness. Everyone tells me that p zeros are rubbish.

And Porsche if course does specify a winter tyre.

I would speak to your dealer.l and follow their advice.

However i hear the 4s is awesome in the wet and UK at least cold.

I will be fitting them to my winter wheels this Summer when the Cuos go back on.

If you have just purchased it you will not have to worry for another 2 years so put on there whatever you fancy. I plumped for 4s`s as they are almost as grippy as a cup tyre with more tread and also work better in the cold and damp.

You do not have to run N rated tyres on any Porsche, don't get confused when Porsche recommends N rated tyres, or voiding your warranty if you don't, it won't.

Check your extended warranty wording carefully and go from there.

You'll need N-rated tyres to pass a 111-point check to renew the warranty, but you'll need to check what happens if you have non-Porsche approved parts fitted to your current warranty.

What's pathetic is you hanging around in here constantly moaning about hard done to you were. We've heard it a million times, get over it and move on.

So here's a scenario. You're abroad and end up with a puncture in some remote place. After searching around the only tyre you can get is a non N-rated type of the correct size etc.. So does that invalidate the warranty?

For all round UK use MP4S are THE best tyre given in the wet on Cup2 you might as well wear slicks (to match those that end up in your underpants when you find out how bad they are in the wet)

I don't know if it invalidates the warranty, that's why I said you need to check the wording in your own policy. It may, and probably will, change over time.

I agree MP4Ss are awesome, we have them on our mk3 Focus RS. Fabulous, even in the current weather.

How are tyres going to void cars warranty?

If you crash your car it's down to insurance. Same tyres on each axle covers that. The only thing the N does is put fifty quid extra on each tyre.

If the Porsche extended warranty states that any non-Porsche parts invalidate the entire policy, that's how. Like I said, you'd need to check the policy wording on your paperwork.

The initial three year factory warranty is different.

Not necessarily.

1. 305/30/20 PS4S N rated - £229.35
2. 305/30/20 PS4S none N rated - £224.90

3. 245/35/20 PS4S N rated - £168.90
4. 245/35/20 PS4S none N rated - £162.95

I agree, the N rating doesn’t add anything at all.

It’s crazy that Michelin make N rated in 305 but not 295.

There is a substantial difference in the price of Cup 2 tyres with N rating and non N rating.

Err, nope. Using rear tyres for the 981 GT4 and figures from blackcircles.com as an example:

245/35/20 Cup2 N1 rated - £246.98
245/35/20 Cup2 none N rated - £254.72

£10 or so...? Hardly significant surely. Camskill £295 N1 vs M0/K2 etc. And given the subject title is about the gt4 305s are irrelevant.

Yep, there was no non-rated 295 on blackcircles, so I'm not sure if there is one. As isaldiri says, there's a Merc rated and Porsche rated and they're £278.99 (N1, Porsche) versus £287.88 (M0, Merc). The older N0 is £311.36.

The OP wanted to know would there be a difference in using non rated tyres, so does not matter what tyre size.
