Considering a GT4 as my next purchase (I'm not allocated one will have to consider a flipped one), the one thing that kind of disappoints me is the noise - are there any aftermarket options that bring some noise back so to speak (like the 981 GT4)? Doing away with the GPF etc be an issue?

JCR are doing a bunch of 718 GT4 and Spyder exhaust options.

GPF is not removed in any of the current available options. In fact it may be illegal to do so and will almost certainly cause CEL without a remap. JCR and GAD engineering options are back box replacement x-pipes.

Sound won’t be back to 981 GT4 levels, but will be louder than 718 stock.

Personally I’d get the car first and run it and then see if you still NEED it. It’s not really a HUGE deal for the closed top GT, sounds ok inside imo and will allow you to run unrestricted on track, especially for the costs… not sure that they even add performance which is primary driver for any mod’s I’d do anyway.

The pictures I’ve seen don’t show any sensors after the GPF so it may not cause a CEL 🤞

After GPF is no problem, as per JCR and GAD

If you try to remove GPF you will likely have problem and at least CEL to clear.

Can you post a link to GAD's new RS GPF Titanium exhaust if there is one.I'm looking at options for mine as a possible more cost effective alternative to JCR's version.

JCR claimed around a 20bhp increase in their post on Rennlist from just the backbox swap...

Yep I’ve seen that, that why I said I’m not sure vs saying they don’t add performance.
Definitely NOT poo-pooing but I’d want to see a dyno, as sound only isn’t worth it for ME for the cost.
Of course the new units are titanium (and this is where the cost comes from) so will save weight… that is a performance gain.
People can buy what they like.

J, I don’t think GAD have a solution for 991.3(GPF) at present. Not evident from the website or instagram.

Or buy a 981 and spend the £40k you’d save beer and women lol.

What I meant is that (I think) there are no sensors after the GPF; just the normal oxygen sensor after the cat. So if the GPF is removed the car may not notice.

Hello Everyone,

first post, I'm from Italy, 718 GT4 owner.

Did you noticed that the exhaust valves closing from 2.000 to around 4.000rpm ? Also if you have the button on.

Someone thought to try to keep it always open? Unplugging the connector as was done on old 997 GT3?

What do you think about?

EU regs. you can buy after market bypass button to choose what the flaps do.

A company called Sportec (near Zurich) has a plug-and-play module where the valves can be overridden so that they are always open. This is done via a remote in the cabin.

A video of this working can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3POaTkQm9b4&t=...

Not sure if similar can be achieved by simply removing a fuse though ...

Hi, I have a 718 Spyder with nothing else to do these days I have decided to do the exhaust mod.

I am also going to fit a flap control unit as the flaps close at 2k rpm and don’t open until around 4 even in sport mode.

Does anyone know why Porsche does this? I am guessing either noise or maybe engine/torque control?

I would be interested if anyone knows.

Kind regards

Marc

Are the valves accessible? They used to use turbo blow off valves which could be held open with wire. Maybe that’s still possible without need to fiddle with electronics?

Can’t you just disconnect the vacuum hoses or something to keep them open all the time?
Electronically controlled now - not vacuum.

Sure? I thought they are vacuum - on start up low vacuum means flaps open initially until sufficient vacuum to close them. 992 electronic but 718 still vacuum.
