Just had NM Automotive Carplay fitted to my 981 Boxster PCM 3.1 by Sexstons in Wandsworth and relieved to say everything works perfectly; Maps, Music, Siri etc and PCM functions still available if wanted. Very knowledgeable and professional service all round.

What was the total cost if you don't mind me asking?

Tempted to get this done on my 981 Cayman.

Yes, correct NM auto website and price as in link above.
Give Sexstons a call if interested, it's 4-hours labour, there are risks as the PCM come out and gets opened up but they have done large number of installs and best compliment I can say is that I could not see that they had been in my car.
Incidentally iOS13 comes out Sept and car play looks and performs much better on that.

I'm running iOS13 beta 2 on my 8 plus and it's pretty stable as-is. smile

Hmmm... confused...

I was watching a review of new 8 series the other day. Apple CarPlay in the dash, but the app to download the door key could only be used on an android phone, not Apple.

So, if this thread is about Apple CarPlay, how can you "get this" for Android? I've not researched this whatsoever but surely Apples is Apples and not for Android? Have I missed something?

By the way... I have an android phone and an Apple MacBook. My phone's away being repaired by Samsung (battery expanded, pushing the case back off) and so I've borrowed an old iPhone of my wife's. Who would buy such a thing... It's horrible to use!

2 separate things re BMW.... Some manufactures all both. CarPlay and Android Auto. BMW currently only have CarPlay buuuuut......
The remote key to unlock the car only works with Android phones at present. Crazy eh. Still I find it easy to as the fob that comes with the car, why complicate things.

the Android version is a different product and is shown at the bottom of the page. shown as "coming soon" though and not yet priced.

Interesting - lack of Car Play in my 981 was the prime reason I was looking at the 718..

This updates the 981 brilliantly..

It does but its circa 800-900 when fitted, and I do wonder if the Apple Carplay/Android Auto software on the installed device will update over time or if your going to be stuck with the same version.

It says compatible with iOS 12 and upcoming iOS 13, so sounds like it should be good for a few years of updates anyway.

Website says £510 inc VAT - have I missed something?

Good point about the update & to be honest we rarely use the stereo so it's really for the sat nav/google maps via iPhone option as the in car Porsche nav is a bit last century as we all know.

Will definitely think about this..

Any videos of this working with the PCM functionality? I wonder if this would prevent an OPC/indy from diagnosing faults on PIWIS?

Curious to know if anyone has done this with a 987; the website says from 2012 but presume that does not include 2012 Caymans as 981 Boxster released Feb but Cayman was Feb 13.

Yes... click on the link in the 3rd post in the thread. Step through the photos and there’s a demo vid there...
