Sharkwerks GT4 exhaust tips fitted in the UK
Discussion
Finally received the 1st set of the Sharkwerks Cayman GT4 tips in the UK earlier this week so popped them onto my car yesterday afternoon.
My primary reason for fitting these was that I really don't like the original tailpipe look. The new tips are 97mm thin wall stainless steel with black ceramic coating (the original ones are 91mm OD and 70mm ID). Being thin wall they look far more aggressive and in my opinion suit the look of the GT4 far better.
They also use an X-pipe construction instead of the OE T-intersection (which when you look closely must create a restriction to gas flow having to exit through a 90 degree angle) The tips are slash cut to match the OEM angle and length and now fill the cut-out far better.
I think they look a lot better and the exhaust note seems to have mildly changed (for the better) as a consequence of the X-pipe merge.

They do look nice and considering they cost the same as factory extra sport exhaust tips they look far better quality!
How are you enjoying the Gt4 Chris now you have had it a while?
The quality of the Sharkwerks is really nice and far better than the OE item! How are you enjoying the Gt4 Chris now you have had it a while?
Using it a bit more now and enjoying it very much, completely different car to the 997 GTS and it brings out the best / worst in you as it encourages you to ring its neck on every journey! Love the noise, the handling / turn in are fantastic, the PCCB brakes endless and I find it such an easier car to actually enjoy yourself in. On most roads I feel the GT4 is about as quick as you would realistically want a road car to be. Yes, we all want more power but it just feels such a complete package.

Sorry, I'm slightly baffled by this comment Chris. The OE part is designed as a mass produced (and thus easily replicated) item, machine welded, includes clamps, and whilst not pretty from the bottom (just how many individuals get down onto the floor to look at the underside I wonder ??) is well engineered and clearly built to last. SW do sterling work, but the SW item is a few bits of tube clearly hand formed, hand assembled and welded (and no doubt hand fettled after assembly too) No harm in any of that, but "better" quality ? As I say, I'm struggling with that concept.I have to declare my style bias here, I much prefer rolled tips to a piece of tube that's been hacked off at an angle and then painted black ...... and at over £450 I'd take the factory item every time. Sorry
As an aside, did you sort the clanging cage issue ?

OK, better quality maybe the wrong words as the original one would no doubt last the life of the car. Having said that it is quite peculiar in its design & construction with no controlled flow of the exhaust gas from the silencer outlets to the tailpipes (the T-junction is completely open forcing the gases to merge from each side of the engine against each other before finding their own way to exit the tailpipes. And what looks to be a secondary crossover pipe just forward of the tailpipe sleeves is actually just a support bridge with no gas flow. The Sharkwerks on the other hand allows a clear exit of the gases from silencer to tips with no obstruction.I have to declare my style bias here, I much prefer rolled tips to a piece of tube that's been hacked off at an angle and then painted black ...... and at over £450 I'd take the factory item every time. Inside the T junction
Inside the tailpipe showing what looks to be a crossover pipe is actually closed off (you can see the circular witness marks from the weld)
And the tailpipe design is purely a personal choice, I like the thin wall slash cut but others will prefer the rolled in tips. I remember when Escort RS Turbo's were new and we offered about 10 tailpipe options to satisfy all.....!
Noise is 100% not the roll cage as it still occurred with the cage disconnected from the rear top-mounts. Dealers looked at it and agreed it was there but had no idea what was causing it (!!!) and i'm now waiting for opportunity to get the car back to OPC as the DP wants to drive and experience the noise for himself. They tried to say it was just a characteristic of the GT4 but 4 others I have since driven have been silent compared to mine... So its still ongoing...

Plate sizing is 100% legal with correct size letters, spaces and border. It obviously looks a lot smaller as only 5 digits and cut down to minimum size possible.
Strictly speaking it should have the details (postcode) of who made the plate and the British Standards markings but looks so much cleaner without either.
Not a fan of the tips, sorry to say, they look cheap but cost lots !!
£450 goes a long way towards something nice like 50% of a DSC box or some rear toe links and a geo.
or a Acropovic cat back system.
I can never work out how tips cost so much esp unrolled ones which cost £12 to make.
oem looks great imo and also look expensive items.

Sadly my GT4 has now been sold - fantastic car and loved it but the compromise of a 2-seater with two young sons was a compromise too far for me and I simply never had opportunity to use it without causing upset & argument. Those of you with kids (especially car loving ones) will understand and my boys will always take priority over a car no matter how awesome it was!
Anyway, I have these Sharkwerks GT4 tips removed from my car available for sale so if you're interested please PM me. They are perfect and have done less than 500 miles!
Cheers, Chris
