Don't know if anybody else has noticed this but on the Porsche AUC website there are only 4 Cayman Rs available - all 'wrong' spec and selling for up to £48k!
Is this the impact of the new 4cyl Cayman and Boxsters? If so, great!
Went out in mine today for a quick blast - what a wonderful machine. It will need some new boots soon, I'm thinking MPSC 2 would be just what the doctor ordered.

Nice low miles red one with PDK for sale ATM.
Don't think you will find buying a PDK will be an issue with the main items of buckets and spyder wheels.
If you mean the one in Lincoln, it does indeed look good and the right spec for me. However, I think it's a little over-priced and am wondering why it's already on its fifth owner?Don't think you will find buying a PDK will be an issue with the main items of buckets and spyder wheels.

If you can live with the red interior, the black one at Targa Florio is good value - full spec (PCM, PSE, PCCB, xenons, carbon buckets, Sports chrono, climate, spyder wheels, 21K miles) for 42K. Just that interior...!boxsey said:

Well if one applies David's logic regarding the large number of former owners on GT3 logbooks, it can only mean one thing : The Cayman R is a cr*p car, I mean what other reason could an owner have for selling a car .... ? ? Shades of David to convince us there must have been something inherently "wrong" with the 991 GT3 as so many of them "threw themselves into the scenery" in the early days, strange that the GT4 uses the same front end components and yet David seems to have conveniently gone very quiet since that fact was announced prior to the launch of the GT4 .....

I would not touch a 5 owner car myself, I do love the R though and tried to buy another last Friday, but due to being busy at work missed out on a mega one owner car :-)Shades of David to convince us there must have been something inherently "wrong" with the 991 GT3 as so many of them "threw themselves into the scenery" in the early days, strange that the GT4 uses the same front end components and yet David seems to have conveniently gone very quiet since that fact was announced prior to the launch of the GT4 .....
I cannot ever see me saying a 991 GT3 throws you off, this was what I said about the 996 GT3 at 120mph on UK B roads it gets a bit out of hand ;-)
the 991 GT3 and GT4 give quite a plush ride and they take 120mph B roads one handed with ease, firm but very plush.
I see you sold your GT3 :-p are you buying an R lol

Agreed but why are the seats in such shocking condition? Mine is that age, and the leather is a little shiny on the driver's side but is otherwise as new - that Targa Florio car's leather looks like it's aged about an extra 10 years?
I thought the same but even if they were in good condition I'd still not be able get that colour past SWMBO!ian964 said:

EX PEC vehicle? (I think, there can't be too many with Red). If you youtube Cayman R it shows it being driven by one of the instructors. 23AJK said:
Shiny new'ish GTS for £55-60k or 5yr old 5 owner CR for nearly £50k. Hmmmm
That's what I call fudging the figures! A GTS is closer to £60K than £55K where as an honest well used CR is closer to £40K (I'm not interested in low mileage OPC cars). Which all adds up to adding nearly £20K to the budget in the real world!Much as I like the look of the GTS (needs to be more aggressive from the rear), I didn't like how it drove. Too clinical and steering was a little light.
The R (to me) feels like a sports car, light, nimble and you know what the car is doing, bit like my old MK1 GT3 but grown up. One thing modern Porsche's can't seem to find at the moment. (unless you go GT3/4 of course)
£40-45k for a nice spec sub 25,000 mile R is a bargain! IMO

Buy a Cayman GTS, the CR was a great car but that's progress for you.

And before I get jumped on yes I had a manual CR in 2012 for 6000 miles, loved it but not as much as the Spyder PDK that precluded it.
The CR is a great car. I tried the new GTS on track and I did like it but it's not worth a premium over the R IMHO. The steering is nowhere near as good and the exhaust noise is fun for about 10 mins and then overly contrived and annoying. Handling is good on both but all aspects of the R are honest - passive sports suspension, hydraulic PAS, proper handbrake = better driver's car Shiny new'ish GTS for £55-60k or 5yr old 5 owner CR for nearly £50k. Hmmmm
