Looking for a Spyder....
Discussion
morning
I've decided not to extend the house, so I'll probably look for a Spyder, and was hoping for an autumn/winter bargain.... yeah right!
Ideal car is a white or red manual with bucket seats, spyder wheels and sports exhaust. I'd favour a car with PCCB too. I'm not fussed about any other options, but a radio would be good.
Is anyone looking to sell?
Thanks
Steve

Ahhh, the Goldilocks spec (basically stock with optional PCCBs and PSE. You can always Carnewal mod the last bit). Something I've noticed with Spyders is that 75% of them are specced as Boxsters (IYSWIM), which ruins them. Considering there's only around 200 of them or so, you're looking at a pool of maybe 50 cars. The odds of a Goldilocks car coming up for sale are slim sadly, and chances of getting a bargain are almost non-existent.

Sit tight and one will be along shortly!
Yep, I mocked the crap out of my brother for getting the Spyder when he could have had a nice older Boxster at the time... He definitely got the last laugh on that one given the values of them at the moment.
His is so close to Goldilocks spec also (he added SC and radio, for which he fails. Got the PSE though).

I’m keeping an eye on the LHD/mainland Europe market and there are virtually none left with decent spec. Prices are around 55-60k € now.
I almost bought a perfect example (bucket/white/manual/pse/spyder wheels/AC/no radio) for 45000€ last spring but expected the prices to come down in autumn. Big mistake from what I can tell so far.
But there are lots of Cayman Rs on the market right now (for obvious reasons) so maybe I’ll take one with a roof.
Good luck with the search.

Wonder if these will be 60k+ next summer.
With prices of rare Porsches going up like crazy , it's hard to sell these in the full on right spec.
It would take an offer of £55k to part with mine in that spec and more atm.
Cars too rare in that sort of spec to part with it any less as you cannot buy one back the same.
I guess my cars collectors spec and hence I don't use it much now.
When you look at other cars at this price range there is nothing else to swap it for unless you double the spend.
I keep selling cars too cheap and who knows what Spyders are going to be in a few years time.

Mine's staying till next spring at least, now it's freshly mot'd, tyred and warrantied.
The itch to change never really goes away, but the rise in prices is in itself a reason to hold on for a bit longer.
And the arrival of the new M3 in October should take my mind off moving the Spyder on....

I've managed to cling onto mine through divorce process fortunately.. Sorry those that emailed an interest when first mentioned I might have to sell up.
Not full lightweight, but the 'right' spec. It will interesting to see how prices go. I've always believed it could be seen as a 'classic'. If they ever hit 55k+ I'd have to think carefully about keeping or selling up. The question would be, how high could they go though?
I still can't think though what else gives such a great drive in a great package with the rarity factor for the price range.

They are £55k now to the right buyer in the spec they want.
Some people earn that a week , if they want the car it's no money..
Thing now is no one dare sell as they are safe money.
If you have some people on the forum paying 48k for the right colour paint, or £350k for a GT3 when they already own the same GT3.
Why not ask £55k for the Spyder, it,s cheap for the car and still under list price.
Yes I,ll talk prices up lol up, for how good and rare the car is it's under priced at today's prices.
If some one offered me £55k I would sell it, and I am sure they will be more than that in a few years.

To state the obvious - any 987 can have the right wheels for about £4.5k minus what you can get on eBay for whatever is currently on it http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

It isn't impossible that there might even be someone out there that would do a swap (exceedingly unlikely, but not impossible). The wheels have been through eBay before for less than retail too, but I wouldn't bank on that happening in any given time frame.
Lose the car for the sake of colour? Wrapping is always an option too - which you will have to consider if you really want red as those really are properly rare (though white is easily the most common).
As has already been pointed out on the thread, when you rule out cars with the wrong seats (eye-watering costs to change) and PDK the pool of UK cars is very small, conferring very real over-the-odds price potential. It is lucky that you didn't have the full sized fuel tank on your list too

That said, I am still not sure that they are as rare as manual bucket seated non-centre lock C2 GTSs on passive suspension with the LSD, so not quite a unicorn. Personally I don't see the Spyders going up, but equally they have been proven to be stubbornly resistant to going down so I may be wrong there - time will tell.
It's got too many previous owners, and is really the wrong colour and wheels for me, so i'd rather wait. It doesn't really matter if it takes 6 months to get the right car.

no such thing as a GTS with passive dampers ?

I thought so, but you may be right actually - it seems that unlike the rest of the Carrera range, the -20mm/LSD option on the GTS did indeed retain PASM and deleting it would have needed to be an exclusive option. Even with PASM, the lower option with LSD is still startlingly scarce though. There was one on the market fairly recently, but they make rocking horse s**t look like a mainstream commodity item to get that coupled with buckets. I have never actually seen or heard of a car with that option, the folding buckets and the centre lock delete all specified ever being on the market. They may not even have made one (at least, not in RHD), but it certainly was possible to spec. In all honesty, even finding a GTS with buckets in the UK is extremely challenging to begin with - far tougher than a correctly specced Spyder. All said though, I don't think that there are any examples of the Spyder how I would have specced it either. Primarily due to the rarity of the (no cost) standard sized (rather than shrunken) fuel tank... (Only know of one of those from on here to begin with).

Bugger!!
That was mine.
Factory fitted by accident, never made it on to the spec sheet.
Sold my white, manual, Spyder alloys, sports chrono, sports exhaust, bucket seated car in May as a part ex for my Cayman.
Market has moved on somewhat from then. Lots. Just my luck.
At the end of the day, they are just a 987.2 Boxster with potentially dodgy spec and a crap roof. Try living
with one. Not bitter me, not at all :-)
