Having tested the cars with and without @ Silverstone, I would say so!

Depends on what you want. I opted for a after market fabspeed exhaust and headers. Adds around 25bhp and saves over 7kg in weight. Mine doesn't have a volume button but sounds far better and louder than the pse

And presumably voids the Porsche warranty instantly? Not a criticism, more a consideration for someone looking to buy a brand new car

I skipped the PSE option. Having test driven both with and without I decided I didn't want it. My car spec is more focussed towards comfort (PDK, PASM, 18 way heated seats, Bose, ACC, etc). Depends on how you want to bias your car: sports vs comfort.

Yes. I think it adds to the sense of occasion. It is also something many will look for on re-sale and would be a deal breaker for me - harder to sell without it.

nothing is harder to sell if you can retro fit the parts after.
selling is all about price, so you sell it cheaper than one with a PSE of the same spec.

the new owner can then make a choice to buy a PSE if he so wishes, I have seen some people on pistonheads have the PSE and want it taken off.

Yes I would want it, but the rest of the spec rules me buying one over a PSE which I can fit later.

same with non x73 Cayman S cars, if the GT4 is not to my liking I won't be buying a GTS, it will be a 2nd hand Cayman S 25k off list and i'll add the x73 kit, remap and nice exhaust system. you can get the 981 Cayman S for about 42k now. If that allows me to keep my Spyder then that's the way I will have to go for the daily. that bloody Spyder has a hold on me and will be very hard to part with esp as prices are going up.

throwing 70k or 90k at a GTS or GT4 is not going to be easy, if it seems bye bye Spyder.

It only voids the warranty if the part that breaks is connected to the mod. E.g. If a cylinder stops working and you have lowered the suspension this will not void the warrenty. I had 18 faults with my first 981cs and after 8 months they gave me a brand new one so I asked to make sure. It's also easy enough to have the exhaust or headers removed if necessary.

Thanks for all the replies....just trying to figure out the must haves before placing an order......i am in the lucky position that i change my car every 18 months, so the car is never a keeper.......so dont want to spec it up to highly as you lose alot come part ex time

18 months must be the peak cash loss time ! , nice if you can do it though I guess. but must be 20k loss every time.

at that point you spec as little as possible, but seems crazy to buy new in the 1st place.

Without going into too much detail.....i sustained some very serious injuries while doing a tour in the Middle East.

Subsequently any new build cars i purchase can be bought minus the vat due to the adaptations i require.....so that helps alot.

serious injuries are not nice esp war related ones, so not a lot I can add about that, bar hope you are enjoying life.

Life is short as it is, and health is always more important than any amount of cash.

I would go PSE and that will always make you smile in the tunnels :-)

The latest gen of PSEs are perfectly executed. You choose to either drive a shopping cart or a wailing supercar. With the roof down on the Boxster, even better!

Agreed - I wouldn't be without mine, the sound is just incredible when you want it to be or refined and quiet(ish) when you don't. I've read that the interior noise is generally higher in a Cayman compared to the Boxster so my only concern is that it might be a bit too much with the sports exhaust switched on - I guess it depends on what driving experience you are after

I have had my (used) 981 Cayman S a month and a sports exhaust didn't make it on to my list of "must haves" - despite having enjoyed it on my Spyder for the last 4 years.

I think it depends on how you are speccing up the rest of the car - sporty or luxurious and what your overall budget is going to be as it is very easy to spend a lot of money on options.

Having done almost a couple of thousand miles already I am in two minds - if I ever had a spare couple of grand I would have it retro-fitted but have other priorities in life to be honest. You are never going to get quite the same "tunnel run" experience in a Cayman that you would in an open top car.

The thing about the 981 S is that it is a real Jekyll and Hyde car, especially with PDK. It is a relaxed low revving motorway cruiser with a comfortable ride but when the opportunity arises, it is a great sports car and for those moments when you are "on it" the sports exhaust would definitely lift the experience.

PSE is a must for me. My R was in for service this week and had a 981 Cayman S. It was so quiet - no burble, overrun or anything. Sound is important to me. Wouldn't be without it.

That said, your needs may be different.
