Probably not as simple as just removing the converters.

The engine is tuned, so to speak, with the expectation the converters are there. Valve timing both at the cam lobe and the adjustment offered by the variable cam timing feature both implemented with a certain amount of back pressure.

While there might be a small gain at some RPM range at others the engine may not be as good with the converters removed as it was with them present.

There is also the issue of the DME attempting to fuel the engine in order to get the readings it expects/needs from the O2 sensors after the converters. The risk is the engine will be not be as optimally fueled as it would be otherwise.

Unless you are prepared to run dyno tests before the modification, establish a baseline of performance, and fueling, etc., then make the mod and do the dyno tests again to ensure things are better than they were before and the engines fueling is acceptable.

What you need to do about keeping the DME from turning on the CEL because of the missing converters I'm not sure. With some aftermarket exhaust systems the maker offers a custom DME program to deal with this somehow.
