There is a train of thought that absolutely bog standard and basic, non S, manual is best. Certainly takes a bit more effort to peddle and therefore fun.

You're not going to get a conclusive answer on here as to which model or options are 'best'.

Tell you friend to drive both of them before deciding and then go with whatever options take their fancy.

I bought a Cayman S a month ago and managed to get the options spend down to £16.5K for just "the essentials". My advice is if your friend doesn't want to spend up big on options order it on the phone, don't go to a dealer and sit in the 18 way electric adaptive sports seats, listen to the Bose or Burmester stereo's, see how the stance is improved with 20" wheels or see how lush a full leather interior is. Order a boggo one and be happy with it rather than look at all the nice options and wish you had them.

Yep, only your friend can work out what's right. This time last year I was speccing up S models to 60k plus, drove a couple of cars and bought a low spec 2.7 and saved £20k. 5 months and 12,000 miles on I'm glad I did, magic car.

Bought a new cayman s pdk 4 weeks ago. Drove a new boxster pdk (non s) as a courtesy car just last week - major difference when you put your foot down. At the top end if just wasn't there for me.

If you want to poodle about posing (90% of my time ;o) then I think the standard would work. But drive both and use them to see the difference... The S makes it for me...

Agreed. Also driven both engines, the 3.4 is noticeably more enjoyable. Still, if you choose the 2.7 engine, you get about £9,000 to personalise it without going above the 'S' price.

Options I would suggest:
It may spoil the look a bit, but I think a rear wiper is worth £234. Clearing the morning dew each day will soon get boring
The basic radio is just about adequate, if you enjoy listening to music it costs a lot to upgrade
However, if you want Bluetooth for your phone, you have to spend the money
I would suggest at least fitting the rear parking sensors, reversing visibility is ok but not great
Lots of other interesting add-ons, but only you can decide if they're worth the money

Agree on the rear wiper, if I was to buy mine again it's the one thing I'd add. Parking sensors v useful if you street park.

5% not a bad start, should be able to get 10%. Start phoning round OPC's if the current one won't play ball, someone will want a deal. If PDK is specced sport design wheel is a must for the paddles.

Same here, 'essentials' came to £17k on my CS! I could live with out half of them very easily.

Options are a very personal thing, stick to what you (or your mate) wants.

this isn't a 'i got a friend with a problem' wink wink question, asking for my mate as he is not on ph, i've just bought a gallardo so have no money to add a cayman to the shopping list
