2 possible electrical faults come to mind. For my two pen'orth:

1. The car believes the door is open (does the interior light stay on?) or
2. The roof closing procedure has not been completed. Is the roof locking handle properly locked forward? There must be a microswitch in there so maybe it is faulty.

this was a common fault on early 996s. Do a search as I cannot remember the easy fix?

Something about having the system re-learn it's settings - sorry for being vague but it's an age thing....

Sounds like one of the micro switches has failed in the locking mechanism. It happened to me a couple of times in my old 996 turbo. Mine was covered under warranty but without I think it was around £250ish to get sorted.

You might be right. I had a different issue that required a replacement door lock inc. micro switches etc. £250 would be a brand new lock fitted at an OPC - I got a used one for £10 off eBay and fitted it myself in 40 minutes. smile
