Pretty impossible to diagnose here bjt assuming all else is ok perhaps wheel bearing or water pump. If you are unsure and can't rule out the engine then get it recovered to your local specialist. Where in the country are you?

Many years ago i had a 3.2 S and had a noise which sounded like a worn rear wheel bearing. It turned out to be no more than the resonance in the tyres which were about 50% worn. Can't remeber the make of the tyrers I'm afraid.

Next time it does it try slipping the car into neutral and see it the speed of the noise changes. If it does its likely to be engine/transmission related, if it doesn't then tyres, wheel bearing, etc.
