RIght up my street; near 400bhp (as there's no need to handicap a 4-pot), a bit lighter and ~40mpg.

What's not to like?

If fitted to the car, PASM is always on.

What about a 987.1 3.2 with a low pressure turbo?

Not really, I have had a PASM car and my mate has a PASM car, when it's on you know about it.

Yes it adjusts on it's own, but on is very much more on :-p

It's an active system. It's always working, you just set the damping parameter.

Quite possible that they mean this engine will be introduced for the next all new model rather than the face lift. There again the 987.2 got the DFI unit, although this new engine change is much more of a change. Who knows..

I see your 6-pot $1.2m 904 and raise you a 4-banger $3.14m RSK718:

The words "up to" 400ps will apply. So much like the Macan, I reckon that there is every chance that the same engine will be offered in a range of tune. I suspect 320, 360, 400 for Cayman, S and GTS respectively with an artificial -10ps for the equivalent Boxsters... Sound right to you guys?

Surely the next thing would be for the rumour mill to suggest that the next iteration of 911s will all be derived flat 6 turbos...?

As for what's not to like - surely we have to wait and see, but as long as it doesn't strangle the soundtrack too much it isn't necessarily destined to be a bad thing.

And for those championing some kind of classic status for the 987 R as an end of the line turning point - surely all that is has over the just announced Cayman GTS (available with non-PASM dampers and 20mm lower ride height for no extra charge) is that it's power steering is not electric and you had the option to delete the stereo and carry less fuel?
