Yellow Cayman S issues
Discussion
I bought the 2013 Cayman S that was recently for sale at the above mentioned dealer, it was the ex press car. Anyway, it was delivered to Silverstone for me to pick up there. The guys were generally pretty helpful at the dealer although their insistence on me having to go to one of their group OPCS to sign the finance docs was a bit of a pain. Normally I can just do it via email or through the post, as I have done with countless other cars. Anyway, as it happened that can't do that so it involved a fair bit of travel to get from London to Silverstone to get the car. I would love to have it had it delivered.
I digress. So I pick the car up and its absolutely kicking it down. I notice at the first roundabout that the car is extremely lively at the rear. Mostly only right handers. It tries to swap ends on me three times on the way home and shows none of the friendly on limit handling I enjoyed in my last Cayman S, also the same generation. I swapped because I wanted sports seats. It wasn't just right handers, it also did it under hard acceleration joining a dual carriageway. This time I had only a small amount of lock and again it snapped sideways. All good fun but clearly not as it should be and joking aside an enormous accident could have resulted. The car positively dangerous.
I called the dealer to discuss with them as I wondered if on the off chance it had had 4 new tyres. Perhaps it was the releasing agent combined with the wet weather. Long shot I know and anyway after a few miles that should have cleared. It didn't. So after the weekend where I parked the car I got it taken to Parr in Crawley. They did a set down on it and low and behold the rear left was toeing out by 4 degrees, when it should be toeing in by that amount. Nice work Porsche on the approved used check. What upset me more was that two bits of trim were missing from the nearside sill and tailgate curtain. This will cost 200 quid to put right and I intend on getting this off the dealer, but the point is more how can they be so sloppy? It is very disappointing.
Being generous the car could have somehow been badly knocked in transport or coming off the transporter, as an explanation for the toe readings. But I doubt it. The fact that bodywork and trim was also not correct just leads me to concluding that the approved used scheme isn't properly adhered to.
Anyway, I hope you guys are not on the receiving end of such second rate service. Still a great car.

It always amazes me that there can be such variance between OPCs and that people have such varied experiences.
I swear by Reading and always use them out of preference if possible – whilst others will say what a torrid time they have had at their hands…
The lack of consistency is bewildering. Generally, I have found most to be accommodating at purchase time (with a few notable exceptions, that I would love to name and shame, but won’t), with the variance being most obvious in the after-sales and servicing.
Frustrating that an OPC (in any location) cannot operate to what might only be considered acceptable (and safe) standards.

thats a shame for you as this should have been a good experience collecting a new car, when i collected my cayman pdk demonstrator it had the big 100 and something point check and they adjusted all the toing angles as they gave me the print out on collection, in your case this wasnt done, i would have a word with the branch manager as the guy that carried out the checks need a severe b-------ing,

Sounds to me as though the car has had a classic "mid-engine incident" at some point in the past. They repaired the bodywork but didn't notice the geometry had been knocked out.
At least it's being sorted now. Which probably wouldn't be the case if you'd bought it under the railway arches as opposed to from OPC.

Have to point out that the toe issue does not have be because the dealer missed this on its pre-sale checkout.
I've seen enough cars cut too sharp in pulling into or out of a driveway and running the rear wheel over a curb and sometimes the front wheel that the alignment issue could have arisen from the owner.
Thus while the dealer might be the blame here it does not have to be the blame.

It takes quite a thump to knock the tracking out, such as hitting a curb at speed or contact and this would have had to have happened post the dealer inspection - so in theory during transport from the dealer in question to Silverstone. There were no marks on the car. Please also note the missing sill covers and broken rear curtain in the boot that were also overlooked during the PDI process. If you ask me the car was just cleaned and wheeled back out the showroom after a 0 point check. That is the disappointing bit.
I don't think it has had an accident. If it had had a shunt then I am sure the tracking would have been checked. It was also the press car so I would expect to have read about it. What have I learnt from this, always buy from a dealer you know and trust. Dick Lovett would never have let this happen and even if they did, it would have been sorted asap and people responsible would have been in serious hot water.

im with you on this pistolp i dont think its had a shunt, just bloody lazy pdi guys, that camber should have been picked up on the 100 point check as i said in my previous post mine was checked and altered before handover, you are right about dick lovet that would never have happened 100% top dealer.I would be inclined to have a one to one with branch manager which i am sure you have. good luck
pistolp name and shame them they are taking the p--ss this is my whole thng about opc, servicing arm and a leg you have to abide by opc rules but they cant even give you a handover without probs, collecting a new car is suposed to be a great experience, well they crtainly cocked that up for you, if it was me i would go in give them hell, no problem with money they took from you then.
