Wheel markings
Discussion
I've recently noticed some strange markings on both of my rear alloy wheels - it looks a bit like they are stained with brake dust but it is permanent. Strange that it's happened on both wheels at around the same time, but not the fronts. I'm wondering if a previous owner had a poor repair job done on them...
Has anyone seen this type of markings on their wheel before, and any thoughts as to whether they can be refurbed (by a mobile repairer, or are they just not worth it - I live in deepest darkest south London you see and I've never been able to find a reputable refurber in the area)?

That marking looks like the beginnings of corrosion under the clear coat on the rim. (I'm guessing from the pic that the wheels are a Carrera Sport style with painted spokes and a 'diamond-turned', clear-coated rim)?Has anyone seen this type of markings on their wheel before, and any thoughts as to whether they can be refurbed (by a mobile repairer, or are they just not worth it - I live in deepest darkest south London you see and I've never been able to find a reputable refurber in the area)?
The only way to remove this is to have the wheels stripped, the rim skimmed by a couple of thou' on an appropriate wheel lathe and the whole lot re-powder-coated.
For great service and the very best results, I can't recommend Chris Weaver at Exel Wheels highly enough. Chris will come to you (to assess the job and quote) and will lend you a set of wheels so you can still use your car whilst he takes yours away for refurbishment. He can also do colour changes on your wheels if you fancy a change.
