Hi folks,

Having just entered the world of Porsche ownership with a 2.9 Cayman, my cloud nine feeling got a knock when I found my old bike carrier won't fit. Are there any cyclists on here who carry their bikes on the car ?

Dismantling and carrying on the passenger seat isn't an option because this is for holiday time & the missus won't wear a bike frame on her knees while I drive up to Scotland. I'm looking to carry a single road bike, so not a lot of weight.

cheers

Brian

Sounds to me as if you need a roof system!

I have one in my loft........which I have no use for anymore. ;-)

Yes, I've heard about roof systems but I'd prefer to hang it off the back. Lower center of gravity & less noise, plus I won't end up scratching the roof putting the bike up there.

Anyone recommend a carrier ?

I've sold 3 now, and everyone loves them. One of them, now even sits on a targa roof, no problems.

I have the OEM Porsche roof rack for my Cayman S and can put either the MTB or road bike on it. Since the car is pretty low it's really easy to get the bike on the roof and despite my initial reservations there is no chance of scratching the paintwork unless you do something daft like drop the bike on the car. There is a bit of wind noise with the roof bars but that is soon drowned out by the engine noise.

If you take the wheels, pedals and handlebars off the road or MTB will fit in the boot.

Hi,
Until you posted that second picture, I'd never have believed that you could get a bike in the back of the car. Now that's some clever packing !

I can see everyone prefers the roof rack solution, and I can see it's perfectly sensible for most of the time. My problem is that we have a 400+ mile trip with a lot of it at motorway speeds and I think the noise factor will get to us. The rack with the suckers is the best I've seen so far, but what I'm really trying to achieve is something like this shot of one of our old cars. The bike is low down at the back, no significant noise factor and very stable. The trouble is that rear spoiler gets in the way of our old bike carrier and I wondered if anyone had found an alternative.

Jesus, that's one hard looking Cayman! Love the 'open' side vents.....
