Went to have a look at this today

Seemed ok and seems a good price. It has sports chrono package.
The only things that put me off is that it has only had two services, and the second one of those was by an Infniti dealership who was selling it. The other thing is that it doesn't have Bose, is this essential? What is the standard music system like?

So it's only had one Porsche service in 56,000 miles? Hmmm. I'd look elsewhere... there should be plenty of these to choose from.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2013...

Is the nearside front wing a different colour? It could just be the light. It should have had more than two services. The gen2 987 is on a two year schedule but I think that one would be annual. The mileage alone merits at least 5 services in my book. Is it at a Citroen main dealer? If so, and it turns out it has been serviced and they'll give you a good 12 month warranty (plus a full service before delivery) it might be a goer. If not I'd leave it. I can't see a main dealer retailing it without fsh to be honest.
It doesn't seem overly cheap for the mileage, i would find one that has a full history from porsche or porsche specialist at least, 987 were on two year service however i wouldn't want the selling dealer to of completed the four year major service cause chances are they probably did a quick oil change at best!!
So its majors service wasn't by Porsche or even a specialist? Would put me off with so many to choose from.
As to stereo, Bose is very average in my view, but the standard system is rubbish. Lack of Bose on that car wouldn't worry me as you'll never be able to warranty it, so needn't worry about fitting aftermarket ICE.

Service requirements, every 2 years alternating between major and minor so it will be due a service this year and if it was done by selling garage last time it will probably be best to get a major service done, so you need to budget for that. Presume you've done your homework, decent warranty definitely adviseable covering all major components. Bose I would say is preferable to many owners as the standard is not brilliant. PCM also desirable which this doesn't have.
Personally not keen on wheels, the price seems ok but then you have the slight doubt over the thoroughness of the last service. Have you phoned previous servicing garage to check what they did? Get a good independent pre purchase inspection before buying but most important have a good look around, and once again, a decent warranty.....all in my opinion of course.
Oh and one last thing, basalt black boxster......very nice

Yes the last service was done by the selling garage but it shows in the service book that they didn't change the spark plugs. The Citroen dealership who are selling it want to do the service when it is sold which I am not that keen of. They have agreed in principal for me to take it to a Porsche specialist to have an inspection done before purchase.
I would try and get a 1 owner car with OPC history, ideally privately. It's what I did and haven't regretted it. Selling soon to fund a house purchase though.
The one there is interesting, last of the 987.1 cars - looks a fairly basic spec though.... Have you worked out whatever stars it does have?
Amazing what mileage does to these cars - my car is leagues ahead of this one but only worth a couple of grand more due to its high mileage and consequent stone chips!
I wouldn't trust a Citroen dealer to service this car - not only might they miss things but it will impact residuals.

Hi Rich,
what do you mean by stars? what is the mileage on your car? Is it newer?
Not mega bothered by residuals as I usually keep cars for ages.
Although nobody's kept this one for that long if it's a 5yo car that's about to have it's fourth owner. Not unheard of, but...what do you mean by stars? what is the mileage on your car? Is it newer?

I've watched cars inspected at specialists a few times where they've said "you can tell this has been serviced by someone who doesn't know Porsches" (even with other brands' main dealer stamps, suggesting a credible level of expertise, but clearly not delivering on it) so I'd definitely see the value in having someone knowledgeable inspect & service it. I'd suggest doing a deal whereby you get it inspected and perhaps get the service done at the same time if it comes up OK and you agree the price.
If you're keeping it a long time then the early blips in the history won't mater much when you come to move it on so what you need to know is what condition it's in now, what needs doing in the immediate, medium & (this one will be partially guesswork) long term future, then make your decision to purchase (and what price you're prepared to pay) based on that information.
