And get SVP and Redtek to turn it into a 3.8! Sounds interesting. Was chatting to Nick about it today. Quite tempting.

Let us know if you go ahead with this - 3.8 X51 Cayman would be a lovely thing!

Although sacrilege on here, I have half a mind to pick up an early Cayman and do a 4.2 V8 Audi conversion of even a Chevy LS...

Similar musings.. wink Been looking and comparing dimensions of the later Audi FSI V8's (e.g. RS4 unit), and they are a surprisingly good fit (although a little tall without modifying the engine cover), and virtually the same weight. They even have a direct fit to the gearbox as far as I can see (as the Cayman gearbox is basically an Audi OA2 gearbox, I think..).

The (biggest) problem is getting them to run and interface with the rest of the car.. I did wonder if the likes of a Syvecs S8 which has been adapted for 997's could run such a V8, but its still restricted for capability with the direct injection..

There are some Audi V8 conversions on Boxsters already out there, though they're the earlier version, I believe!

Come on - someone make it happen, else I might be forced to on my return!

Assuming you are referring to my original post, the engine is by Redtek, maybe not as well known in water cooled circles as Hartech, but a very skilled engine builder. I suspect the combination of Redtek and SVP doing it is very appealing.

If anyone interested, an SVP modded Cayman S got a good review by Jethro B. in the latest GT Porsche mag.
