I did a search and a thread came up on Plant 9 but was not concluded.

The water can come in from a bad weather seal around the trunk opening; a mis-positioned front trunk lid; possibly backed up water drains under the front trunk lid and plastic panels; a leaking windshield washer tank or hose system; or if someone has been at the car and removed any rubber plugs (if there are any) that are in the front trunk compartment. Some of the above can arise from a car that has been in an accident and had a poor repair job. The front trunk lid being mis-positioned for instance, or the rubber plugs missing for instance.
thanks Rockster, I've had the car for 6 months. In that time I'm sure that its rained quite hard but have not seen any water in that area before, so not sure what is going on...
will have to wait for very dry day and get the hose pipe on the front of the car.
anyone else's input/2p worth will be much appreciated.

well i had a look in to the front boot leaking last weekend. removed the liner to dry it out and remove the scuttle plastic panels to see if any drain holes where blocked by pouring water over the windscreen & bonnet. No water appeared. Well like the rest of the UK, its been raining nearly all week, so had another look today.
well great news, no water in there! but i that i had a leak. thanks for everyones input
