Anyone run a Boxster on classic car insurance ?
Discussion
Clearly, when comparing premiums, there are many factors to consider - not least age of owner, accident and/or convictions history, postcode where kept etc.
But £320? My new 981 Boxster S (cost over £60k) is insured with Porsche Insurance for less than that for 6000 miles, fully comprehensive, for social, domestic and pleasure use. I'm 55 years old - with a clean licence and 70% no claims discount, and the car is garaged in Lincolnshire.

The garage bit is important, mine isn't & it makes a huge difference. My group members pay much less for those that are garaged. Classic policies neither accrue or use NCB either, my NCB is on the daily driver. But £320? Best quote I've had so far my Boxster (2003 S) is from Lockton. I have no garage but not a risky postcode. 50 y.o. - £357 for 3k miles. I couldn't find anyone else who would do one unless it was 15 years old, but then I didn't ring ALL of them. If I took my 9 yrs NCB to them, which I can't do at the moment, it would be £285!
You still can't get a firm quote online for classic cover because there are too many variables like your personal car and driving history that some firms take into consideration and there isn't a box for that.. yet.

I insure my 1998 Boxster on a classic policy with Hagerty, not sure on exact cost as I insure 2 classic Minis on the same policy but it is less than £400 for all 3. It is garaged and you have to have another car as your main everyday car. I think it just needs to be over 10 yrs old to qualify.
ETA I am 39, but costs have not changed too much in the 7 yrs of having the car.

My Dad uses RH Classic Insurance for his 2001 S. 5000 miles a year, garaged. Can't remember how much it is off the top of my head, but it is quite reasonable.
Looks like we won't be sticking with the classic policy though when it comes to renewal. Mileage will be going up a bit and 5000 is RH's maximum (I'm also trying to convince Dad that he ought to put it on our multicar policy so that I can be temporarily insured on it )
