Can OPC spot indy oil change
Discussion
Hi Guys,
981 just about run in and I am going to get an oil/filter change despite OPC telling me not to waste my money. (Thats got to be a first) Question is...if I get the oil change done by an indy will OPC be able to tell when it goes in for the first service, obviously concerned re warranty.
Cheers

Yes. OPCs use red oil, a bit like red diesel, and indys don't have access to it so when the OPCs drain the engine they know what you have done and void the warranty.981 just about run in and I am going to get an oil/filter change despite OPC telling me not to waste my money. You can use red food colouring to adjust the colour of indy oil but you need to know the exact mix. Unfortunately I don't know it but perhaps someone else here does.

Never heard of this before....You can use red food colouring to adjust the colour of indy oil but you need to know the exact mix. Unfortunately I don't know it but perhaps someone else here does.
Why not ask your OPC if you can supply your own oil? My OPC wanted £253 to carry out an interim oil change on my 987 in between services. When asked how much if I supplied my own oil it was reduced to £45 + VAT. Picked up Mobil 1 at Costco, under £60 for 10 litres. Total cost circa £114 for an oil change plus got a stamp in the service book.

From 2014 extended warranty will require the use of Porsche approved screen wash too. It's made by Sonax but again will have dye in it and it WILL be checked before any warranty claim will be agreed.

Was this long ago? IIRC since the red oil was introduced I think OPCs have stopped allowing owner-supplied oil. Many OPCs were charging "corkage" on owner-supplied oil anyway making it a less attractive option.

I had my oil change in August & there was nothing said then about supplying my own oil. From 2014 extended warranty will require the use of Porsche approved screen wash too. It's made by Sonax but again will have dye in it and it WILL be checked before any warranty claim will be agreed.
I can't believe they could even entertain refusal of a warranty claim for different screen wash. It's almost as ridiculous as refusing a claim because you've filled up with supermarket fuel or washed the car with cheap wash n wax!

There is a chance of preventing DAR being rolled out globally and there is a legal challenge going through the Central European Court. If I were still a Porsche owner I'd be writing to my MP to highlight the problem and ask that representation be made to prevent this restrictive practice. You can find out who your MP is HERE
Red oil is nothing hard to get round compared to the old days, I remember a few years ago OPC used to use oil containing specially developed tadpoles, which died if over revs were registered.
I recall many an anxious moment at oil change time waiting to hear if all my tadpoles had survived and if my warranty was still in place.

Tadpoles is a bit of a misnomer. The long chain molecules were designed to breakup around the cam at specific rotations, because of the heavier top end. The technical term was, IIRC, Ablenkungsmanöver.I recall many an anxious moment at oil change time waiting to hear if all my tadpoles had survived and if my warranty was still in place.

Seriously!? This is a wind-up surely?
For new car warranties, how would this comply with the EU block exemption regulation?
A loophole apparently. The only place compatible red oil and screen wash are available are via distribution channels controlled by Porsche and which don't, erm, distribute. For new car warranties, how would this comply with the EU block exemption regulation?
Remember the situation with tyres for the 991? Only Porsche could get them. Though they shot themselves in the foot there because even they struggled to supply them.
They are craftier than a cart load of monkeys. Remember that they cornered the market in VW shares: http://www.cnbc.com/id/100342487 They have people whose sole job it is to calculate how to manipulate markets, allegedly. The DAR policy is just the latest manifestation of it.
At my last service my OPC told me to ensure I only use shoes and clothing from the Porsche collection. Apparently they have special 'smart' fibres embedded which the OPC can detect.
If traces of these fibres are not present any warranty for interior wear and tear is voided. Also as your shoes touch the pedals it also voids the complete engine and drivetrain warranty.

Can I buy Porsche clothing from a specialist or will it need a 111 seam check before I can wear it in my 911?If traces of these fibres are not present any warranty for interior wear and tear is voided. Also as your shoes touch the pedals it also voids the complete engine and drivetrain warranty.
