will a 2.7 Cayman feel slow ? previous Porsche was a Spyder.
After a Spyder, yes. Little wheels can make it more exciting, but you ain't going to go any quicker. I find my car more involving than my brother's Spyder to drive as you have to spank it. The Spyder is MUCH quicker, but you can't really use all it's performance as often. I actually prefer my car in that respect. Well apart from the 2 weeks of summer where my lid doesn't come off... Rest of the year though, I'd rather have mine.mrh1275 said:

Assuming you're talking gen1. The evidence seems to point to the 2.7 being a lot more robust than the 3.4 when it comes to catastrophic failures.mrh1275 said:

Depends how deaf you want to be. The Cayman is a LOT louder inside than a Spyder.€400 to Gert Carnewal and get the GT mods. Which FWIW is quite a bit louder than the Spyder with PSE. If that's not enough for you, get the cats done too. Give yourself time to acclimatise to it, because it is, really.

Old argument but as a road car (and as an owner of a 2.7) I really do not buy this notion that it is slow. Maybe if you use it on track or drive everywhere well above the speed limit but as a road car its a great engine to give some revs (its no lazy turbo diesel) and plenty quick enough.
One proviso is that having switched from 19" wheels to 17" I'd strongly recommend putting on the smallest wheels possible as they really bring the chassis to life.

It will definately feel slow compared to the Spyder in terms of accelleration. The 2.7's have a more linear power delivery and lack that neck snapping punch.
But they are still great fun in the twisty bits and they aren't actually 'slow' cars, its just you are used to something a faster.

I certainly find my Cayman 2.7 tiptronic rather lively after trading my 2.0 Z4 against it!!
Interesting note about the smaller wheels, as my original 18" alloys are starting to bubble and I'm contemplating changing them but have never before delved into this mysterious world. Do I need to go to OPC for new wheels/tyres? Warranty etc...?

I have a summer and winter set of 17" wheels, both purchased unmarked and secondhand. One set (£300) from ebay with good Michellin PS2s and the other from Gumtree (£200). I fitted the second set with German import lightly used winter tyres (fitted for around £150).
Much of the 987 market is about the bling bling, nobody wants 17" wheels. If they are original fit wheels with correct N -rated tyres I suspect very few OPC would query a warranty claim. I would recommend retaining the original fit wheels for car resale anyway.

Its not slow at all, you just need to adjust to driving it by keeping the engine singing.
Alot of drivers seem to get frustrated with the lack of point and shoot on the 2.7, you just need to adapt driving style into something more aggressive when you want to push on. That engine will sound sweet at low speeds with an aftermarket.
