AV185 is a regular on here, I’m sure he will be able to explain his build slot.
Having specced and owned from new a Spyder and a couple of new GT4s I think I have grasped the difference between the cars!Interesting points on the possible ride compliance differences between the earlier and later 2024MY GT4RS. Bear in mind the SRS has 55% front and rear 43% softer spring rates with totally different setups so unless Porsce have moved the later GT4 RS more towards this setup which imo is very unlikely given the different ethos of the two cars reckon imo as others have said it is more a case of the alloy/mag wheel steel/ceramic brake combo influences together with different tyre pressures giving different driving impressions (as per the 992 GT3 ref Harrys Garage) tbh.
Car and driver also recorded the GT4 RS cabin noise at max throttle opening read out at 102 v 99 decibels for the 992 GT3. So very similar.

Humm I think a little bit of caution needs to be applied to that statement. 3dB is actually a doubling of the sound pressure level, it’s a logarithmic sale remember. Now that does not mean it’s twice as loud, but it’s not very similar!99 dB inside a vehicle is bloody loud and well into the range of mandatory hearing protection in any work environment. 103dB is very bloody loud.

Seem to recollect that 3db is as you say doubling the sound pressure level but is relatively the smallest audible difference in loudness intensity perceptable to the human ear.
It is just not that simple. 'Our ears are more sensitive to changes in volume at certain frequencies than others, and in practice frequency response can change as the volume changes, due to room acoustics and electrical/mechanical limits of the audio source'. I have driven both for a good amount of time and would say I found the 4RS a fair bit louder. The noise is a different frequency as a lot of it is intake sound as well as engine/exhaust.

How far in front does a opc know there build slot model allocation?
With previous orders for more general production Porsche Caymans, I've generally had to wait about 6 months from placing the order to getting the build slot, with a few weeks or so to finalise the spec. And then another 3-4 months wait for delivery. Around 11 months start to end every time for 3 cars now. They have always said I can always hold back for a later slot if I want with those, but I never have.
The GT4 RS is going to be a whole lot quicker. I'm guessing this slot was one someone else had dropped out of at another dealer, as it seemed like it was a "use it or lose it" offer to the OPC I tend to use. Whether that or not, I didn't spend much time thinking about it. I did let the sales person get to the end of his sentence, but I had made my mind up before that. Didn't want to risk hiolding back for a later slot and then find the factory had decided not to offer any new slots next year. I'm really not sure if they will.

Noise is fine my GT3 RS made 132 DB drive by but on the motorway ....not so sure constant drone is pleasant
Is that fine because you are already partially deaf?!130db is the equivalent of:
a jet take-off
the loudest rock concert ever recorded
a gunshot at close range
the sound made by a jackhammer
and considered extremely dangerous, causing hearing damage or hearing loss.

I went to #3 in Brixton. It was really quite loud. Definitely bearable, but not something I'd prefer to repeat every time I go on the M4
BTW what was that you said again?

Porsche moved to more intake/induction sound with the 2017 991.2 GT3 compared to the 991.1 and followed with the 2019 718 GT4 and Spyder compared to the 2015/16 981.'Our ears are more sensitive to changes in volume at certain frequencies than others, and in practice frequency response can change as the volume changes, due to room acoustics and electrical/mechanical limits of the audio source'. The main obvious difference between the 4RS and the GT4/GT3 contributing to the additional sound is the exposed engine and location of the airbox of the 4RS.
Following the relatively low number of UK 4RS allocations now confirmed in the final quarter of 2023 it is now looking like there aren't too many 4RS/Spyder allocations remaining for this year either in fact both OPCs I deal with will individually only be receiving 2 further cars of each model.
Other interesting point contrary to recent theories is that the 4RS and Spyder will simultaneously cease build around May or June 2025 and at this point at least there will be no late additional colours or PTS slots on the 4RS..... unsure about the SRS but can't see any difference tbh.
Had rather been hoping the rather attractive Venadium grey currently available on the SRS will be become available on the 2025 model 4RS but unfortunately it appears not.
