Thanks. So with 70 odd UK cars I wonder why they even bothered building the thing in the first place…..
I would think that it hasn't cost alot to develop as most of the big development costs have been covered from the 4RS development. The new roof is the only new cost i guess. Therefore it makes lots of sense to build it. Plus whilst the UK numbers will be less, globally they will be selling quite a few.

I think its a great send off for the boxster model before the electric ones arrive!

No allocations at my OPC yet. To be fair they are very grumpy about it.

No idea if I will get one but it would help if Porsche would actually send some over to the UK mad

I have got an “ideal” spec but by Christ it’s expensive. Mine comes out at £165K which is exactly £65K more expensive than my last 718 Spyder. I am struggling a bit with the concept of spending £165K on a bloody Boxster however good it is. There are some issues for me. The Weissach pack is £9K which on the Spyder doesn’t seem to add much apart from some carbon frippery and you have to have it to have PTS so basically it’s the best part of £20K for a nice colour scratchchin I also want heated 18 ways which are available but a no cost option over the buckets, normally they are cheaper, at least they get rid of the horrid two tone colored seats which I detest. I am not keen on the exposed carbon bonnet especially with PTS so paying for the Weissach pack and then covering up its most noticeable feature feels a bit silly.
First world problems and all that but I am wavering about the Spyder RS which disappoints me a lot. Perhaps it’s time to change brands.

Yes, dealers are struggling to get confirmation of numbers out of Porsche atm. Same for the ST.

Agree the WP is alot of additional cost to just have PTS. They seem to be really trying to extract as much extra cash out of customers on this one!

You don’t have to like every car Porsche produces you know. Or buy it.

Don’t you already have an RS product that you like? Why not just keep that and enjoy it?

Seems a bit of a stretch to “change brands” because you don’t like the spec options of a car you don’t know if you even want because you can’t see the value in it.

Bigmowley,

Please don’t take this the wrong way, as I normally really enjoy your posts, especially given the range and number of cars you’ve had access to over the years, but this post seemed a bit out of character for you.

Thanks for the kind words smile. I suppose I am a bit out of sorts ATM. Unfortunately unlike the vast majority of the powerfully build Directors on PH I only have finite resources and they are stretched a little thin. To get the 4RS I had to get rid of my PTS Spyder and I loved that car to bits. The man maths that I used was that I would choose between the R8 and the 4RS as my quick track car, once I decided which one I liked best, sell the other and then get a Spyder RS, the perfect car to replace my other Spyder.
All this assumes that I can actually get a car of course but nothing ventured nothing gained etc.

As it transpires the 4RS whilst it’s actually fantastic on track is a bit of a PITA on the road in normal driving, mainly because it is too noisy and stiff. Reading the reviews of the SRS whilst it’s not as stiff, good, it is still very noisy, not good. However add in the not so clever hood and the £65K price delta and I am beginning to see a flaw in my master plan.

Why did I sell my perfect Spyder banghead

Still look on the bright side we are off to Brands GP on Friday in the RS and the R8 to continue our scientific evaluation of which car we like best drivingdriving

I don’t think you are alone in your current predicament. A friend recently went from Spyder to 4RS and actually said to me last week that he much preferred the Spyder as a road car and you really need to be using the ;RS on track a lot for it to make sense.
But as you’re using yours on track quite a bit, at least you’re getting that benefit out of it.
Maybe a GT3 is the answer? Not as raucous as the 4RS and SRS, but still excellent on road and track? I think more people are cottoning on to the 991.2 being the sweet spot for doing a bit of both. Definitely not many of them around for sale right now.

Hope your experiment goes well!! And you come to a decision on your quandary smile

So a Spyder with a tune to around 460hp could be the car some are looking for?

It’s not the power level, more the merrier for me smile I want the throttle response, performance and drivability of the RS with the civility and useability of the std Spyder. Oh and the Burmester sound system. Not too much to ask is it?

You'd probably be able to get the Burmester through Sonderwunsch program. Be prepared to pay alot for it though!

Looks like Spyder RS cures all of the 4RS road going ‘issues’ according to Evo Magazine and Dickie Meaden

Tried for pts/cxx slot but nothing as yet. Maybe more cars will come next year but not at all guaranteed and then 718 production stops around week 16/18.

Going for weissach, bonnet stripe, mag wheels, front lift and pccb’s as the main options.

Very nice. I hope they allow PTS for next years cars! I think there will be a couple cars per dealer. Will be a very rare car for the UK.

Withdrew my LOI. After running around in the 4RS for a few months now I am not feeling any desire for a SRS. I buy cars to use not to sit in a collection or as an investment. I just cannot justify the reduced practicality and lack of usability with the extra performance on offer. The RS is great on track and borderline dreadful on the road. Take away the track bit of the SRS and not sure what you have left? That and my spec comes in at nearly £170K and whilst it’s potentially not an issue give that it will certainly hold its value very well I just do not see a Boxster at that price.
Perhaps I am now officially old (61) getmecoat where do I hand my PH card in?
