For five studs I use a cordless drill with a variable torque setting to control snatch when the nuts are loose ... plus a wheel wrench and then a torque wrench (twice) when torque-ing up.
For centre locks Porsche suggest not using an air-gun. There is a rather expensive electrical device which can be used in place of a long bar to torque up centre locks ... it prevents counter rotation by locking against wheel itself so in this respect it's safe a painless, but costs around £4000 when I last looked.
thank you - that is good to know For centre locks Porsche suggest not using an air-gun. I left mine in exactly that sort of position over a weekend. I did put an axle stand to assist the jack, just in case, but there was zero creep.
I am very interested in the portable scissor lift type jacks - Quick Jack etc.
Glad to hear it. As an orthopaedic surgeon I’ve come across many pitfalls. I am very interested in the portable scissor lift type jacks - Quick Jack etc.
Closer to home I was changing a damaged under tray on my Taycan and the Jack point disintegrated. Classic Porsche peripheral part quality. I did however have an axle stand and a tyre on its side. Even a 1cm drop is scary when your head is underneath!

I hope you had something else on that corner in case the trolley jack failed, or the jacking point sheared off. At least you’re only changing a wheel and not putting your head underneath the thing. I think the risk was low, and I was only changing wheels and doing a bit of cleaning, but advice noted.

I've done the odd DIY oil change. On the Mezger, the dry sump tank is a fair ways back and it is something you think about - the whole engine and transmission dropping onto your head - while wrenching. The damage to the garage floor doesn't bear thinking of.TDT said:
I had two jacks on, one on each side and the axle stands for the front.

I do apologise for being a bit over the top with the scaremongering. My views are biased by the scenarios I’ve come across, so no doubt the risks are lower than I perceive them to be. I think the risk was low, and I was only changing wheels and doing a bit of cleaning, but advice noted.
