CTEK charger issues

My CTEK Lithium XS charger is showing the red light of soon at stage 1.

Ive eliminated the extension lead and connected it directly to the battery still the red light even after the 10 second hold reset.

As far as I can tell the battery is all good. No low voltage warnings and it’s showing 13.2v on the dash.

For context the charger is outside (it’s IP65) but the red light issue appeared after a huge rain storm.

Any clues? Has this happened to you or is it just that CTEK is all a little bit rubbish when used outside.

Mine did that, couldn’t work it out.
Bought a new one.
Bit defeatist, but I took the old one apart and couldn’t come up with anything.

If it's just after a rain storm them my guess would be either it's been submerged or hit with rain hard enough that it's penetrated the case.

IP65 is only rated for a water nozzle pressure. You could put the next one on a brick or block of wood to try to keep it off the floor (and avoid any water pooling)

I had this, and it was the connection of the chargers cable with the comfort lead.

A clean, a wiggle, and it worked OK.

I’ve had similar and it was also the connection to the extension cable (which was always outside on the ground, with the charger itself being inside). Gave it a clean and some WD40 and all good again.

Have you got another car battery you can test it on?

I connected it directly to the battery with crocodile clips bypassing the extension and comfort cables. Still failed.

Replacement charger arrived today and everything is back working. So the conclusion is that the previous unit was faulty, just over a year old.

Sometimes they fail.

Switch it off unplugged, and leave it for a few days. This worked for me recently, and it's been fine since.
