911- does nobody sell privately anymore?

I should have been in a 991.2 cab by now. Saw one advertised privately earlier this year. 17 plate, mega spec and really low miles. However it was a ‘base’ Carrera with manual. I intend to own for no more than 2 years and I was concerned how desirable a non-S cab with manual would be.
My error as it turns out. Although the used car market seems widely in the doldrums, used 991 seem to be flying if they are low miles. Almost all the cars advertised are with dealers.
If you have a 991 would you even bother advertising privately or does everyone use a dealer or CarWow and the like now?

I’ve bought and sold Porsches privately in the past.
Both buyers and sellers need to tread carefully, but it can work well.
One of the most significant benefits is the inclusion of the extended Porsche Warranty.
It makes it much so easier and safer for both parties.
I wouldn’t buy a contemporary Porsche privately without it.

WBAC are offering incredibly strong money at the moment, so perhaps they’re hoovering everything up?
I didn’t even consider selling privately. Even though I think you’re going to be dealing with a better quality of buyer at this level, I’m not sure it’s worth the hassle and risk for the sake of a couple of grand.

Far easier to trade out and much less hassle.
Private sales adverts do attract idiots and dreamers, many of whom would rather engage in one liner emails (usually low ball offers with immediate cash payment
) or text speak instead of actually picking up the phone and having a conversation. Then there's the 'carpet treader' types who'll come round, look over the car, pore over all the paperwork then announce they'll need to go home for a coffee and think it over, but you never hear from them again. Then the more interested party will want an independent inspection that ties up more of your time. It doesn't help when private sellers are valuing their cars close to what you can pay from a dealer and with all the associated protections.
I can see the argument for a reasonable price from a dealer or bid from Motorway, where someone turns up, a quick check over, payment made and away it goes.

I have a 991 and whilst I am not thinking of selling it, I have wondered occasionally what the process might be.I wouldn't really want to offer test drives, nor take it out in bad weather - all of which makes selling privately rather tricky!

Older 991.1 seem to be having their moment as well. All reminiscent of the ‘last of the air cooled’ mantra, except replace Air Cooled with Normally Aspirated.
A lot of people need finance to buy cars - it’s so much more easy to obtain when buying from dealers.
I would say broadly that less and less people sell privately due to the huge number of wannabe ‘dealers’ who speak in text speak ‘best price for cash mate?’.
I normally sell privately but I sold two this summer : Turbo S I traded for a T - OPC basically gave me the price I paid 2 years ago - minus what I’d need to spend to get it ready for sale, and an Exige V6 and WBAC gave be 1.5k more than I paid a year ago so was a no brainer really.
Like me, I suspect folks are surprised as how much they can get for trade at the moment as just go with the easy option.

Sold my manual 997 GTS coupe on SoR through RPM. They're local to me, I trust them more than 99% of car dealers and there's a very transparent process. With a car like that I might have been able to go private but there are obviously risks with doing that like there are risks with SoR ...I preferred the SoR route.
