Ian Jemmison in Bishopthorpe near York ... he is a specialist in repairing and repainting magnesium wheels ... if he can do that he can do anything and he with his son make a very good team ... !

I found a buckled wheel when replacing a damaged tyre. I took the new tyre (which could not be fitted) and the wheel to Ian and he repaired the wheel and fitted the tyre whilst the car was sitting on its jack .... a class act.

He has also repaired magnesium wheels for me etc etc ... hence I can wholeheartedly recommend him.

I wouldn't have a wheel refurbed for that little damage. If you buy a close paint match from Halfords and touch up the damage with a small modelling brush it'll look fine out there in the real world. In my case there's too much risk of scuffing the same wheel again about 10 minutes after a proper refurb.

Looks like 100k’s worth of 992T

So I’d get it done properly, going rate only £50-£70 a wheel to get it fully refurbished and tyre refitted / rebalanced.

Blimey, please can you post up where you can get wheels done for that?

I use wheelworkz, chemical strip, repair, powder coat.

Not diamond cutting that’s another place and £90 wheel

Update Porsche say wheel is not repairable as the alloy has been compromised so looks like a new wheel! Ouch ! Anyone know best place for new Porsche wheel?

Is that Porsche (the OEM) or the dealer? If the latter I would defer to an expert.

IMHO it is all to easy for dealers (who have limited engineering knowledge) to default to replacement.

I'd get a second opinion before replacing the whole alloy.

Porsche Tequipment or somewhere online?

Porsche approved body shop comment also shown Porsche letter of what is acceptable repair and what isn’t .

"What Porsche thinks is acceptable"?

It's your wheel, it's damaged, you can fix it any way you like.

Unless that photo is not representative, that wheel has not been "compromised" its been scuffed, perfectly repairable.

Compromised means it is either bent/buckled or has stress fractures, which would require specialist diagnosis, not some bloke looking at it in the car park!

Even bent/buckled wheels are repairable with the correct equipment and process, its very common in race and rallying to have wheels repaired. Even stress fractures can be repaired, e.g. BS EN ISO 9606-2 is the UK standard for welding alloy wheels.

I learnt along time ago that Porsche are masters of using "Porsche say" to gouge more money. I had a nail in a tyre with only 500 miles on it that was repairable but the OPC insisted on replacing. Ended up speaking to Michelin technical who admitted that if the type wasn't "N" marked they would agree it was repairable (to the appropriate standard), however as it was Porsche they had to insist on replacing ................

Its your money and your choice, but I would find your nearest decent wheel refurb place, get it done and more on with my life!

I agree ... this sounds dangerously like opportunistic BS by the Porsche representative ... OPC or ??

Ask Ian Jemmison ... for rally purposes they can even change four stud to five stud wheels for greater stability ... that looks like but a flesh wound !!

Will be Porsche dealer at a cost of thousands, hence why they are giving you that advice.

Id get a wheel refurb place to look at it, its a scuff.

Did it happen at low speed against a curb or was it something more significant?

A good reputable wheel company will easily fix that wheel. That is a minor flesh wound. Someone is taking the pi** saying it needs to be completely replaced.
