Not having much luck with my rear light(s)

They were a little crazed an now the left rear has cracked right through so I'm sure it wont be long before it fails...

I bit the bullet and bought 'OEM' from deign 911 at nearly £700 and the fit was incorrect so have two send back, so it looks like the eye watering £1,300 or more for one rear light, I'd ideally but two as the right is crazed and not great. Anyone know how I might be this done at sensible money ?

Replacement does not sit correctly and Banham tried hared to get it to fit

Original is inset by design

Tried really hard to load the pictures and seems to fail every time but you can hopefully see the poor fit....

If you can live with the crazing and the crack, get them covered (properly, by an expert) with PPF. They'll at least last a few more years.

If the crack is deep (in either the red or clear portion) it can be filled and re-lacquered, then PPF'd on top.

I had a rear light damaged on my 997.2 rear light last year after a bodyshop attempted to remove the rear bumper without first removing the light clusters. The end result was this :

Faced with a similarly chunky bill as you, I had the cluster repaired and this was the result :

Once the cluster was refitted to the car, the repair was invisible smile

Can I ask where you had this sorted?

That's great advice and looks really good but this alas is a large crack

That's the centre section separating from the outer section.
Ping me a pm, if you've got any other issues of the cluster and that crack, send them to me, and I'll forward them to him to see if he can fix it.
Same applies to FriedMarsBar.

Slippy, thanks I have dropped you a PM with my home e-mail as not sure how to send the images direct. I took this earlier and the crack has opened as if the prexpex was stretched and under tension, which I guess it was. The other lens is crazed as well. Darn annoying they are £1,300 each !

Also worth considering buying a LHD light if they're cheaper (and more available) on the continent. You can swap over the PCB's so the light setup is the same as RHD (fog lights etc)

Hi Slippydiff

Here are a couple of images of the issue I have.

The clear lens appears to have distorted, as at the top there's a small gap (I've put some brown card in the gap) and the bottom of the lens isn't flush with the red lens so protrudes a little over the red (highlighted in yellow).

I can move the white lens, by pressing with my hands, and make it align, so there's movement.

Thanks

Is this allowing water ingress ?

yes, quite a bit of as the top of the lens, where I have cardboard, was allowing it in and most likely the gap at the bottom too.
