991 Fixing bad trim rattle
Discussion
I have recently bought a 991.1 and there was a bad rattle in the rear that sounded like it was from the C pillar. I did a bit of search and it would seem that rattles from 991s, especially in this area are common.
I found a couple of great videos and posts on fixing the rattles. What I found I had not seen anywhere else, so I thought I would share it in case it is useful. The C pillar rattled badly just by touching it so there was clearly an issue.
I removed the rear panel - easy - it just pulls off. This enabled me to remove the C pillar.
I looked at all the usual areas I have seen pointed to and could not really find any issues. What I did notice is that the panel marked X in the photo rattled really badly when moved back and forward. Plastic on metal.
Behind this panel, in the area marked with the yellow arrow, there is a metal lug and a plastic bracket (there was no clip or fastening in it - should there have been?). The bracket rattled badly on the lug.
By lifting the X panel it was easy to get access. I simply placed a self-adhesive thick felt dot on each side of the metal lug as in the photo. The panel lifted back into place, the plastic bracket now fits nice and snugly with zero noise!
Everything put back on place - test drive - rattle has gone.

Thanks for sharing this, I think I have the same rattle!
Here are a couple of very useful videos that I found. It is a lot easier than some of the 'instructions' and diagrams I have seen.https://youtu.be/oj-hkf_Zs-Q?si=7q2hLM3ge7DtUU6z
