Looking for a bit of a sanity check.

Fortunate enough after a lot of saving and a big toy clear out to finally scratch that itch iv had since being a teenager and get myself in a 911.

I started looking at 997.1 rebuilds and as always the scope creeps and at the moment even a 992S from porsche direct is slipping into budget (although base spec)

Only must haves are the full 4 seats (3 & 6 year old) and sports exhaust - my inner 18year old trying to get out. If an older car I think id prefer a manual but not hard fast. if a 997 not the 2S as much prefer the wide body

Im sliding towards a 991.2 GTS where i can get one in my budget now but then start worrying about having to replace the turbos.

This is a weekend car, road trip and possibly a few days out to Oulton park.

Where would your money go?, I want to get the right one and keep for a long time!

992 is a very good car and can have a Porsche warranty for 15 years.

That money will get you into a 991 turbo S, which is all the car anyone will ever need.

Thanks for the replies so far

Research put me off a 991 Turbo to be honest due to the reviews just refering to its streight line speed, also its 70-80k on a 10 year old car and the prospective imminent maintenance.

I did spot this at the top of the budget,

If you want a sports exhaust, the sound is probably an important factor, in which case I'd be staying away from 991.2 cars and be looking at a 991.1 S or GTS which has the 3.8 litre normally aspirated engine. Without turbos you'll have that delicious induction sound and with PSE you'll have the best exhaust sound. I say this as the auditory experience is the thing that really gets me fired up above all else. I don't care if a car with a turbo is faster, I'll choose the slower one which sounds better. But there are no slow 911s.

I'm not a big fan of white cars or black wheels, but something like this:

or this:

I'm picking Ashgood as they are local to me and from personal experience a very pleasant company to buy a car from.

I’ve got a 991.2GTS, had a 991.1 GTS before.

The 991 is great, not too old and plenty quick, with modern enough toys. Looked at 992, just can’t see what I get extra that I feel is justified in terms of costs tbh.

My ideal? Probably 991.1GTS manual. I went from PDK to manual on the change and it’s brilliant. But do miss the noise of the NA engine, even if the Turbo unit is rapid.

Try a few differing eras etc, one will be yours.

A nice problem to try and solve! Enjoy it.

How about this bit of a unicorn with manual, did fancy it myself but not a fan of the wheels and really needs sports exhaust.

Offer £80K on this and you'll be set.
Hand selected to be part of the Porsche 75th Anniversary 911 display in 2023.
Whats not to like.

The colour? I can't imagine owning a dark green Porsche unless it was a Cayenne or something! I'm sure some people will like it but it's very divisive.

Got ceramics on mine, while I wouldn’t have sprung for the cost from new the stopping power is immense.

As long as you keep out of the kitty litter, if on track, and don’t break hard on gravel drives I can’t see much downside tbh.

The only downside is the potential for a very, very large 5 figure bill at some point.

Its got your name on it! Better than the 992 White in my opinion - that flat white is like a refrigerator on wheels. You've waited this long since a kid for a 911, go a bit special.

Re brakes - if it all goes pear shaped then one could consider Surface Transforms

https://rpmtechnik.co.uk/blog/surface-transforms/

or a PPCB to Steal Brake conversion
Use the concern in your negotiating - that is the car for you. Its HQ's history and unicorn status makes it a special one at that price.

They (pccb) are generally good for over 100k under normal use so they are a plus in my book every time and as your not looking at gt cars, the clearance between wheel and disc is enough not to have any worries about stones snagging.

Tbh I didn’t believe in unicorns until I actually seen one and took a picture…..,,,

EDIT TO THIS

Just had a look at the above gts, didn’t realise the discs and calipers were as big tbh, deffo a chance of stones snagging between calipers and inner barrel on those..

I’ve often wondered what I’d spend my imaginary 80k on.

GT3.? There’s a nice red one at Cambridge for a few k over budget. Or do they not have back seats?

Not at all PCCB are brilliant and a bonus. That GTS is lovely.
