EU headlights 996 Turbo

Thanks in advance.

Moving to Sotogrande in Spain in September. Any advice on getting the my 2004 996 turbo’s headlights changed/compliant

Or just get it done when I’m there?

If you go on YouTube is it a DIY thing. The lights can be adjusted, no extra parts required.

Bunch of us in 996/997/987 did ours in the Eurotunnel car park before a trip last October. (I tend not to bother for trips in the summer if I am not due to be driving at night.)

There is a lot of adjustment on the 996 headlights, I know when you switch most headlights over to drive on the other side they simply cut the height of the nearside so it doesn't dazzle, without actually extending the drivers side so you can see properly. However, I would guess that if you do switch them and then use the adjustment screws you will be able to get them working well and able to pass TUV.

If not you can fit some upgraded LHD projectors, which transforms the performance compared to old units.

Switching the lights only stops dazzling oncoming drivers, it doesn’t give a full correct beam pattern for LHD

AFAIK there is a different part number for LHD cars

Thanks for the feedback, I have emailed retrofit, to see if they do a permanent fix.

Whatever to solution it needs to be permanent and compliant in order to pass the Spanish ITV test, which is the equivalent of our MOT.

The Retrofit Lab solution replaces the guts of the light unit to the point you actually lose the ability to use the RHD/LHD switch facility. If you buy the the LHD version it will be a true LHD conversion. Also worth mentioning that I have the RHD version & apart from being an enormous improvement over the woeful OEM output, I have done many km on the continent without once being flashed for blinding oncoming vehicles. The beam cutoff is knife-like and is easy to adjust so as not to annoy oncoming vehicles.
