911 Tiptronic Carrera - 996.1/996.2/997.1
Discussion
Hi,
I see a lot of information regarding the turbo tip 996/997, just wondering if there are any differences with the gearbox between the Carrera 996.1/996.2 and 997.1 tiptronic? Assume they are all 5 speed and perhaps the mapping improves with the newer cars?
I'm coming around to the idea of an auto and don't want to rule out a car because of it i.e. an aero kitted 996.1 with tip would be a nice thing to have but equally the cost to buy benefit of the tips could mean a 996.2 C4S or a 997.1 is possible on my budget too.
Cheers

I had a 997 Tip and loved it but you do need to learn to exploit it, if you like pushing your car.
My understanding is that the Tip in the 997 is more sophisticated and has more maps but I'm sure others will have a better understanding and clarify.

From one that has a Tip and a manual 997, the tip is ok, good for cruising and the occasionally fast road driving. But if your experience of a 911 is a tip only, you won’t be getting the full excitement, dynamics and capability of these cars. They’re totally different cars targeted at difference audiences.
