I'm thinking of buying a LHD version in the coming weeks and am hoping for feedback/advice from current or past owners please. It was a Japanese import.

Servicing/ maintenance issues? What to look out for, etc.

Many thanks

Corrosion/paint bubbling around the front and rear screens. Look in the lower corners; lift the rubber trim up slightly and run your finger along.

Anything showing on top will mean a large amount of effort to remove the rust hiding below.

Can't think of anything else 993-specific that you can 'see' easily. Other than that, normal due-diligence on condition vs odometer reading, what servicing, what has been replaced, but the mantra on any old car IMO is buy on condition, and obviously 'buy the owner'.

E.g. if the tyres are dated 2014 expect a hundred other things to have been neglected.

But the good news is that it's all fixable, good quality parts are available, and there are multiple high-quality options to replace the suspension components.

Good luck.

If it's had a replacement windscreen make sure it's been fitted correctly and doesn't creak when driving along, it's really annoying...

Front boot struts are an absolute ar$e to change but cheap.

Mine needed new plug leads, dizzy caps, rotor arms at the last service, thought nothing of it until I got the bill... That would be a nice to have along with a recent plug change I'd say.

Weepy engine would be a bit annoying, worth a quick look underneath.

I bought my wife a 993 Cabrio TipTronic and it is a wonderful little thing. They are quite expensive to service so it is about finding a good reliable workshop that can help you keeping it up to scratch. We had a couple of paint bubbles on the front wings and also the very typical rust around the windscreen. But it is quite easy to fix. The fact that it has the TipTronic prevent you from having to check overrevs. It is the last of the "manufactured" Porsches - the 996 was a complete overhaul of manufacturing practices and level of automation. It makes the 993 more desirable but it is largely a hand built historic car by now. Enjoy.
