Looking at the configurator, the Turbo S has a lot of stuff standard -

- 18 way seats with lumbar, bolsters etc
- Heated seats
- PCCBs
- PASM
- PTV plus
- PDLS plus
- Sports chrono
- Bose speakers

I’m on the market for a second hand 992 Turbo S and my question is: Is there any specific spec items that I should definitely try to get? Nothing seems truly necessary? Compare this to when I was buying my 981 boxster, I saw loads of opinions on how important the sports exhaust was or the upgraded Bose speakers were.

There is a OPC used car listed for 135k.
Then there is this example from Amari supercars for 10k more that is specced quite similarly (just has burmester extra as far as I can tell??) but I prefer the black with yellow color vs the grey and white.

What is the common thinking on spec options when it comes to buying these used?

Sport Design package and Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels really help differentiate the exterior from the rest of the range.
Sport exhaust, axle lift and either cruise control option also essential imho.

They all seem to have -10 suspension drop which I understand makes it quite firm.

Only had mine a few weeks but so far:

It rides really well without the 10mm drop. I was put off by the inter web comment about the firmness of this option on UK roads.

The Burmester is fantastic, not sure I'd drop it for the Bose.

Sports exhaust gives it a bit more noise but not as much as aftermarket. Lift is useful depending on where you live.

Mine has the aerokit (Sports Design kit) and exclusive wheels. Purely cosmetic but they please me.

I’m surprised the grey one at £137k hasn’t sold. It’s been on there for ages.

I held out for one without the 10mm drop - seemed like every car had this, and I felt it was unnecessarily firm with. Another vote here for the Sport Design and the exclusive wheels, gives it a great look. I thought I didn’t care about the sports exhaust, but as it’s a cab I quite enjoy it. I have the axle lift and haven’t used it once.

I’m on my second. Neither had -10mm suspension nor front axle lift and in 10k miles I’ve never missed either. The front spoiler is pneumatic and is retracted at speeds you would be crossing speed bumps or garage entry ramps.

On our crowded roads in UK I think Lane Change Assist 7Y1 and Adaptive Cruise 8T3 are worth having.

The PCM navigation is hopeless. The mapping is hard to read and you can’t enter waypoints by Geo Coordinates. I use Google Maps and Android Auto as a workaround which is OK but you shouldn’t really need to on a £200k car.

Agree every car seems to have this, dunno why. Did you get to try both -10mm and normal? How does the normal car ride compare to anything else you've been in? Im quite curious how the ride's gonna be coming from my Boxster S (where I find it slightly firm but fine, but my partner likes to use a cushion lol)

Yes, I tried both. Found the 10mm one crashier and unnecessarily stiff - I knew to look out for it because I had had a 992S with the drop and didn’t like it, and a targa before without which was fine. The ride on the standard suspension is great, I think people just spec it for the dropped look. It rides better than the boxsters we had imho - I like the combination of 4WD, PDCC and rear axle steering. Plenty controlled enough in spirited driving, but comfortable enough for a sensitive passenger - I have a cab mind you, it may feel a little softer..

We have a standard height Turbo S cab and the ride quality is definitely more plush than the Boxster 4.0 GTS it replaced - I’m sure the Mrs will approve smile

Im on my second 992 Turbo S, personally I wouldnt purchase one without the -10mm Sport PASM. I don't find it hard or crashy and it sharpens the car up nicely on the road, it also looks visually better. Its a long way from GT3 ride quality and even the GTS is a harder car.
