Insurance Co Recommendations
Discussion
Hi all
My 991.2 GTS insurance is due 10/2/24
Currently with Manning Uk who have just quoted
£945 (with active tracker which costs approximately £200 p/a)
£1573 (without active tracker)
I’m 52 with full no claims
1 sp30 in September 2020
The car is garaged and there’s a 5000 mile limitation
I have along history of driving performance cars
This seems totally absurd it was £700 last year with active tracker
Can anyone recommend a more competitive company or is this really where we’re at?
Thanks
Ric

I think it's a case of ringing around unfortunately.... I read that applying 26 days out (or something like that) is the optimum time to get a quote.
I've just insured a couple of cars and saved £600 by switching from Direct Line to Admiral - but obviously every situation is different.

I thought Adrian Flux were having a laugh when they presented me with a renewal increase proposal of 34% to just over £1k for a 991 C4S cab. It’s rural postcode, restricted mileage but has some business mileage included, garaged, 2 named drivers over 60 with full NCBs but no tracker needed. I shopped around and couldn’t beat it even with requirement of having tracker subscription. No way was I carrying a second fob as I have to have already for Cayenne (“as they get stolen to ram raid”)which is on business fleet.
LV was good for me when I insured my 18 reg 991.2 Targa 4 GTS in 2021 ( I sold the car at the end of December 2021 and am waiting for prices of high-end cars to drop further before buying another car May/June of this year). I paid £189.00, which was over £1000 less than the quote I got from a broker I had used for a number of years. In 2021 I was 63, had 40 plus years of NCB (Though LV only give you credit for a max of 9 years NCB) and confirmed that the car could be taken to a Porsche dealer for repair if it was on their list of approved repairers. If the repairer was not on the list for that year (It changes yearly), I would have had to pay £150.00 if I wanted to use a repairer of my choice. My total excess was £1000 ( £400 plus £600 voluntary). Oh, and LV insure the car not the driver so anybody over 25 was able to drive it fully comprehensive.
To maintain ny NCB ( It falls by the wayside if it is not used within 2 years), I insured my son's 66 reg Porsche Boxster in October 2023 with LV and that cost me £255.00- an increase of £40 compared to what my son paid to insure the car the previous October.
Ivan
I meant to add that I had to activate the tracker at a yearly cost of around £150 as the car was at the time, and probably still is, worth more than £80K

NFU worth a call but make sure you ring an office not their central number for the best quote.
NFU changed their policy a couple of years back by insisting on tracker for cars worth over c£75k.
FAIK Admiral are the only insurers who currently do not insist on tracker on higher end stuff.

Switched to the Locktons PCGB scheme this week; competitive price, no tracker required, agreed value (self certified up to I think £150k), choice of repairer, OEM windscreen replacement and a bunch of other fringe benefits. Aviva are the underwriter and I could have renewed direct with them for virtually no increase at a significantly lower cost but I wanted to switch to a policy that was more aligned to the car.
If you go for a mainstream insurer you will (perhaps) pay less but you definitely won’t get the same level of cover so caveat emptor.
I tried all the usual suspects and there was a wide variation in prices and or conditions so unfortunately you probably do need to dedicate some time to renewing.

Just renewed with Locktons & was pleasantly surprised they were slightly cheaper than last year. Had been bracing myself for a massive, inflationary rise
You could also try Insure with Porsche who provide the OPC drive-away insurance. Underwritten by Chubb. https://www.insurewithporsche.co.uk/

Porsche insurance £1916
Admiral next
I had to go Admiral in the end last week .Admiral next

I’ve got a 991.2 Targa gts
Last year I paid £475 with Carol Nash , this year went with Admiral and paid £550.
I’m 53 max no claims , no points on my licence etc , 3000 miles a year as I never do more than that , my tracker is also inactive and I’ve never actually activated a tracker for any car I’ve owned .

I’ve just reinsured with Privilege, no tracker required (apparently none last year as well, but they didn’t tell me!). I asked if this is the case for all cars now, they stated yes, no tracker required.NFU changed their policy a couple of years back by insisting on tracker for cars worth over c£75k.

Car is 991.1 GT3

Sheilas wheels were most competitive when I changed my mk3 Audi TTS to a Cayman GTS last year. Aviva wanted over 3.5k to sub the vehicle onto my existing policy and a tracker fitted but SW came in about 750 with no tracker requirement. There were cheaper but you find out the really cheap insurance is really cheap for a reason.
