I'm thinking of buying a spare set of wheels with winter tyres for my 992 when it arrives next year.

OPC prices are eye watering as you'd expect.

I've seen these guys online and they're suggesting that their product is official Porsche certified parts. I get the impression the wheels are used though - which isn't too much of an issue, assuming they're in tip-top condition.

Has anyone any experience of them? CW Performance Wheels, 18442 Wendorf OT Groß Lüdershagen, Germany.

Question. Are there import fees on top?

There maybe a customs declaration fee, but no duty. VAT?? Not sure.

I’ve bought a couple of sets of winter wheels from OPC’s over the years…I don’t think the prices are eye watering If I am honest. For example you can get a set of winter wheels for a 992 Carrera for just over £3k….the tyres on there own would probably be £1500. I think on a Turbo or GT car it’s about double that so that is expensive. You can obviously get a 10% discount on parts through Porsche Club GB and I reckon you might get more if you have a good relationship with your OPC.

Why not just get a set of winter tyres and have them fitted to existing wheels?

Because you are paying twice a year for a tyre technician to swap tyres over with new valve and balance.

In some cases the wheel size for the winter tyre is not the same as the summer tyre (eg 8.5J and 11J winter v 9J and 11.5J summer)

I bought my winter wheel set from them in October, would recommend.

I cant comment on the import duty as I'm in Austria but it should be the normal dont pay German tax and pay the VAT when they arrive. I chose to use them because I wanted the standard wheel with winter tyres but the OPC would only sell me the wheel set which was on the Techquipment list, so the smaller wheel.

The wheels they sell are generally used but the condition report in the advert is accurate. Some sets have new tyres and some used but this is mentioned in the description and reflected in the price. Shipping was a reasonable price and the wheels were shipped the next day. Price is very good I would say. The deals from design911 worked out at the same cost as the OPC and this company is a good chunk less. The big thing is they have a good selection of styles available which the OPC wont sell you (in my experience).

I have Michelin Pilot Alpins and they are great, I was driving in the snow last weekend and had no issues at all.

In Switzerland winter tyres are mandatory once out of Autumn ... but in the UK good wet tyres could surely be obtained in standard wheel sizes ?

Evo suggested that the Continental Sport Contact 7's were the best ... but this was on the Continental test track ... and 2/3rds of the price of the MPS4S ?

That would work, same for some good all season tyres but there would be no disadvantage in using winter tyres. They have the tread for snow but also work well in normal cold conditions and heavy standing water.

So overall, any of those options would be good for the UK.
