992 GTS Exhaust upgrades
Discussion
Hi all,
Thanks to the amazing UK weather right now I've managed tro put some decent miles on my (new to me) 992 GTS. One area I'd like to improve is the exhaust sound. It does sound a little synthetic at the top end, and with the valves closed beloe 3800RPM it's not very emotional.
I know with turbos and OPF/GPF it'll never sound amazing, but I'm wondering if anyone has taken the plunge on any upgrades? I'm not interested in voiding the warranty, so options are limited. Initial research shows:
a) Replace exchaust with Akroprovic or similar. I'm not sure whether dropping £5k will give enough of an improvement over the PSE - epecially in volume, although tone would likely be improved.
b) replace the cats with 200 cel sport versions. Other say this will increase volume a little, including more turbo whistle but could throw CEL and may have warranty implications.
c) Install exhaust valve controller (like the Car Graphic unit) to leave valves open. Will add more sound at low revs, but may reduce power by removing back pressure (must be a reason Porsche developed the varibale valves in the 992).
Any thougts welcome!

I faced exactly the same issue...I used the cargraphic valve control unit which made a remarkable difference. I then managed to get a second hand Akra backbox which also made a further difference. They both make a significant difference and it's only now I'm enjoying driving car. I reckon one or the other would be adequate but happy to have both.
Try one of these. Plug and play with no need for a remap. Have two of these on 997 turbo and 991 turbo s. Excellent quality and sound both far better than OEM.

Yes two OPCs ( Hatfield and Swindon) turned a blind eye to the Europipe for warranty work on our 991.2 turbo s inc two new turbos under manufacturers warranty for circa £15k! We put our Europipe on within a week of delivery on the 991 ts. Transforms the sound completely. 991 still on extended warranty. Well worth it in our experience. If the OPCs wanted to invalidate the warranty claim for the new turbos they easily could have but I suspect faulty turbos are a common issue on the 991 as loads of owners have had the same issue as we did ie hesitation under wide open throttle at high rpm. Thoroughly recommend the Europipe your GTS will sound like a Porsche should.
I think the exchaust controller is the first place to start. ASR components offer what looks like a rebranded Car Grpahic unit for under EUR500 - prob £550 delivered in UK which is arounf £100 less than Car Graphic.
I looked into the Europipe option, but surely those cats would throw a CEL? I'd also be worried about warranty, especially since I didn't buy the car from an OPC.
I think a slip-on exhaust without sports cats might be as far as I'd go - but would be nice to hear one without dumping a lot of cash on one. The Quicksilver looks good for the money, but I'm wondering just how much of an improvement over the PSE you get with any of these. Most likely a better tone, maybe louder burbles in Sport mode, but is it worth the cash?

Resurrecting as wondering if anyone has done anything else on this in the last 12 months?
A PHer has created a little gadget that you can use to keep the valve open. He sells it for about £35. Have a look through the posts. (I've replied to them so you could check down the posts that I've replied to.)Edit: found it: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
