996.1 ULEZ Exempt Success!
Discussion
Hello all... its been a while.
Annoyingly where I live (near Purley) is 100m inside the expanded ULEZ zone, and as an owner of a 3.4 Carrera (996.1 MY2000) I found that my reg was coming up as not exempt from the ULEZ charge.
Following a bit of back and forth with Porsche and tfl I've managed to get confirmation that it is in fact compliant and won't be subject to charges:
This was achieved by:
1) Filling out a certificate of conformity request form from porsche UK (email: contact at porsche.co.uk for the form);
2) Email the completed form along with V5 (or other proof of ownership);
3) Wait upto 28 days for the certificate of conformity to arrive from Porsche GmbH.
- For my car this showed: NOx is 0.055 (euro 4 = 0.08) and CO2 is 0.269 (euro 4 is 1.0);
4) Then, log into TFL ULEZ account (https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone) and navigate to contact ULEZ section (https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emission-zone/contact-lez), select "Make an Inquiry." Here you can upload your documentation and state case for vehicle compliance etc.
5) I recieved an email 5 working days later with an attached pdf stating vehicle with my registration was compliant and not subject to charges.
That's the short version - Overall fairly painless experience - Happy to continue to drive it without forking out £12.50 a day!
Good luck

My 2001 996tt and 986s are fortunately compliant this time. A bit like you, I don’t want to change them, though a change in ULEZ will probably mean I will drive them much less. I’ve had the 996tt for 16 years, and the 986s for 9 years. No reason to change them, they do a great job, look great and still give me a lot of pleasure..
I’ll probably switch to my 1976 series iii Lightweight Landy as my daily. No tax, no mot required and ULEZ exempt despite its massive emissions fail.

Legislation is working well there then
There are several CAZ - Clean Air Zone - now around the country. I found out the hard way that if your car is exempt from TFL it is not exempt from CAZ. I believe the same rules apply so EURO 4 for petrol cars. You need to apply for exemption from CAZ or pay their charge if you ever travel through one. Similar process to applying for TFL exemption but a totally separate system, office, organisation and people.

Looks like it passes Euro 6 comfortably too if they move the goalposts to there...
I would imagine there are multiple criteria to meet Euro 6 hence this, and all 997.1s being Euro 4. I think 997 Gen 2's are 5 and 981/991 etc are Euro 6.Edited by ejsnow on Sunday 11th February 10:44
